About me

Psychotherapy can be a broad term - I offer first and foremost a safe space for you to be yourself, without judgment and with compassion, where we can begin to unravel some of your feelings. We don't get the chance very often to really think about how we are doing, even though we might ask each other several times a day. How many times do we respond other than the "Fine, thanks! You?"

Therapy is a place for me to ask "How are you?" and for you to really take time to think about the answer.

I offer talking therapy methods, with a psychodynamic focus – this is the understanding that our actions in the present can be based on unconscious processes, often formed in our early childhood. Depression, anxiety, a sense of being "stuck", feeling numb and an over-reliance on coping mechanisms like alcohol, drugs or food can all be signs that we have some issues we could do with processing.

Creative psychotherapy is also an option - this means we can work with talking therapy in our sessions, but also use art work, play, stories and movement to enhance our understanding of ourselves, or when we struggle to find the words.

I also offer EMDR therapy, which is a trauma-focused method approved by NICE for anyone impacted by trauma.

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing. It is a unique, powerful therapy that helps people recover from problems triggered by traumatic events in their lives. It stops difficult memories causing so much distress by helping the brain to reprocess them properly, working with memory to heal the legacy of past pain.

EMDR therapy is best known for treating PTSD but can help with a range of mental health conditions in people of all ages including depression and anxiety.

Dramatherapy is a specialist branch of psychotherapy, which involves the use of working with elements like story, breathwork, movement and metaphor. It is a discipline which is deeply rooted in anthropological, psychological and psychotherapeutic principles and practices. It's also a title which is regulated by the HCPC, which means that there are several conditions which must be fulfilled before you can call yourself a Dramatherapist.
