About me

'It can be so hard to make the first step to find help with issues that are affecting your emotional wellbeing, but make your first step be here!'

About me

I am a qualified counsellor, group facilitator and mindfulness mentor, and I offer a safe, confidential and non-judgemental therapy space in Royton, Oldham.

My background is in psychology, and in particular neuropsychology and one of my specialist areas is helping those coming to terms with an acquired disability, or mild brain injury. I also work with the families of ABI patients, helping them through difficult times. I have worked within the NHS in both psychology and psychological therapies.

My work at present is predominantly surrounding anxiety and depression, which has escalated in our communities due to current conditions. Suicidal thoughts have also been on the rise, and I've found so many people who feel they can't talk about feeling suicidal without being met with negative responses.

I give my clients both the time and space to talk freely about all their emotions, with the view to feeling in control of those emotions, and not the other way round.

As the wife and mum of ex serving military persons, and my voluntary work with SSAFA, I have experience of military life, and an understanding of the difficulties surrounding it, for both serving persons and their families, and those who have left the forces and are experiencing difficulties at present.

I have worked for almost 10 years with groups, especially in areas of anxiety and depression, either in support groups, therapy groups or delivering workshops, and for several years now I have worked as a 1:1 counsellor in bereavement, loss and trauma and general counselling. My core work is person centred, but I integrate some influences of other therapeutic models, such as CBT and mindfulness depending on a person's needs.

What I offer

I'm not an advisor and I won't tell you what to do, but through listening to you and understanding how things feel for 'you', I can offer you help in finding your path to empowerment and self-healing. I encourage the promotion of your own self-growth and allow you to explore ways to make changes in your life that can bring about a better sense of wellbeing. By allowing you to talk and be listened to without judgement, can feel unusual, but also liberating and refreshing for a lot of people.
I also use creativity with clients who struggle with expressing their emotions, through art, and imagery. But mostly I use talking therapy.

Counselling can give you new perspectives, and help you to make life choices, and if you feel that at the moment you are not happy with your life and it's causing emotional and psychological stress then maybe you are ready to make changes... changes that can allow you to find some level of happiness and satisfaction. I can help by being with you at those difficult steps towards change, and sometimes the steps may take you back first before you can move forward, and I will help you in your decision as to how you pave your new path to a person with a healthier mental wellbeing.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
