About me

Many people experience difficulties or problems at some time in their life. It is often hard to speak to family or friends because they are simply just too close. There can be a need at such times to speak to someone who will listen, understand and accept us.

I offer a space where you can make sense of your individual circumstances and provide support while you make changes in your life. I hold a deep respect for the individual's capacity to live a more satisfying way, will not make judgments and will help you find your own solution.

As a counsellor I have experience working with adults covering a wide range of issues, but also have particular experience working with young people and multi-cultural counselling. I also offer relationship counselling for couples.

I now offer EFT- emotion focused therapy which is an evidenced based approach, widely recognised as effective for working with anxiety, depression and trauma.

Training, qualifications & experience

My background prior to becoming a counsellor was teaching in primary education and support for learning.

My qualifications relevant for counselling are;

  • BSc (Hons.) in Psychology
  • MSc (Distinction) Person-Centred Counselling
  • Foundation Course in Family Therapy and Systemic Practice
  • EFT - Emotion Focused Therapy (levels 1&2) Strathclyde University

Experience

I am an accredited practitioner with twenty years of experience in the field of counselling and psychotherapy. Over this time, I have been a volunteer, worked in the third sector and in academia, alongside running a private practice.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

Person or client-centred therapy is based on the view that everyone has the capacity and desire for personal growth and change. The focus in the counselling session will be you, to help you come to terms with any negative feelings and to change and develop in your own way.

I offer remote sessions, which allows flexibility for clients in their busy lives, and can offer face to face sessions from the end of March 2024.
