About me

Life is not easy. Relationships are not easy.

We might get overwhelmed with guilt for not coping, shame for having failed in the past and sometimes we can end up not really liking ourselves very much. We might self medicate with substances or other behaviours which we know don't really help, but they seem better than nothing as they numb the pain.

What I provide is a safe space where you can explore your true thoughts and feelings without being judged. This can help you deal with emotional and other issues which may be difficult or painful to deal with alone. This in turn can empower you and help you build confidence and resilience.

Many therapies focus solely on the here and now, or on childhood experience. I believe that while both of those are important, we have lived a whole life and it all feeds into how we deal with everyday stresses and how we are coping, or not, right now.

My practice is integrative which means it encompasses different therapy styles. This might include looking at recurring patterns throughout your life which have contributed to difficult periods, or we might explore triggers caused by specific situations, and work through coping mechanisms. Some people find it useful to re-examine past experiences which are a source of anger, guilt and shame, and reframe them to come to acceptance.

It may just be that you need that hour a week to focus on yourself. It may be that you need to learn to be kinder to yourself.

Training, qualifications & experience

MBACP, BSc (Hons), Levels 4 and 5 diplomas in therapeutic counselling. Certificate in couples counselling. I undertake regular additional training.

I have extensive experience of one to one and couples counselling both face to face and online.

I have experience with anxiety, self-esteem, depression, past trauma, relationship issues, teenage anxiety, anger management and that feeling of being lost that many of us experience from time to time.

I also specialise in alcohol and other substance abuse as a presenting issue, though substance abuse is merely a symptom of underlying problems and so my journey alongside this client group has covered a great many issues including trauma, self esteem, loneliness, anxiety, depression, relationship problems and more.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
