About me

Hello and welcome. My name is Amy and I am a BACP Registered Psychodynamic Counsellor and Psychotherapist with a warm and empathic approach.

There are times in life when we experience challenges which maybe ongoing or isolated events, and these may sometimes feel distressing, overwhelming or confusing. Perhaps you are struggling and feeling that these difficulties are hard to cope with, and are unsure about how to manage.

A safe and confidential space can provide a therapeutic setting in which we can explore and reflect on these thoughts and feelings together, and can help us make sense of what is going on. It can also support us in developing more self awareness, who we are as individuals and can encourage us to look deeper into the origins of these feelings.

Psychodynamic therapy focuses on our early life experiences and relationships and how they have shaped our behaviours, feelings and emotions in the present. It is also underpinned by the relationship with the counsellor, the development of trust, and provides a space where you can be your authentic self.

I believe that a trusting relationship with your therapist is at the core of our work, and I will provide a safe environment where you can talk freely, knowing this will be met with empathy and respect. Our work will be based on your individual needs and will be undertaken at a pace which is comfortable for you.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
