About me

Hello, I’m Amelia.

I am here to professionally and skilfully enable and empower you to help yourself, leading to lasting results and change.

I have a genuine interest in people and my approach is warm, positive and sensible. I provide a safe, non-judgemental and completely confidential space. With me, in this positive environment, you can unravel problems, explore issues, and work towards finding a better way to live the life that you want.

I am a qualified Psychotherapist, Integrative Counsellor and Coach. I am registered with the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP), and I strictly adhere to their ethical code of practice. I have also worked as an Occupational Therapist in the NHS for over 25 years, specialising in Chronic Fatigue, Pain, Depression, Anxiety, Dementia, Trauma, and Sleep problems.

I am open-minded and have a good sense of humour. Therapy isn’t always deadly serious, and a little bit of laughter can sometimes help towards achieving excellent results. It can be hard work, but it is also about change and personal growth. So, as our sessions progress, you may find the process empowering and exhilarating.

Let’s work together.

Being an Integrative counsellor allows me to be very client-centred and work in a creative and flexible way.

Therapy is best when it is tailored to your needs. We can decide together about using a more pragmatic, Solution Focused or CBT approach. Or you may want to use the space to talk, offload, explore, and dig deeper into feelings and past experiences. Many people find that being properly listened to is enough, but other people want to find solutions to their difficulties and make changes to their life. We may decide to move into ‘Coaching mode’ when you feel you are ready to implement changes, should you choose to.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Our initial session

When we first meet, we will have an assessment session. We will discuss what you feel your requirements, best hopes for therapy, and expectations are. I will ask you about what has motivated you to come to sessions at this time. We shall then map out what the most helpful way forward is for you.

At the first session there will be ample time and opportunity for you to talk freely and to discuss any questions or concerns you may have about therapy. If at the end of the session, you decide that you would like me to work with you, we will discuss practical details like frequency and times of sessions.

You may find that it is easier for you to express yourself in ways that are nonverbal, using creative mediums such as art and writing.
As someone who engages in art, I would be happy to use creative activities as part of our sessions.
