About me

I am a qualified, BACP registered, psychodynamic counsellor working in private practice and for a Cambridgeshire based charity.

What can counselling offer you?

People come to counselling for many reasons. You might want help with a specific problem, or you might want to talk more generally. I provide a confidential, safe and calm therapeutic space where you can talk freely about what’s on your mind without fear of being judged, criticised or given advice. Whatever your reason for coming to counselling, we can work together to help you explore and better understand your challenges, identify changes you want to make and how you might achieve these.

I offer online (zoom), telephone and face-to-face counselling in Cambridgeshire (CB23). Depending on your needs and financial situation  your counselling can be time-limited or long-term. Sessions are usually weekly and last for 50 minutes.

Please contact me if you have any questions.

Training, qualifications & experience

My counselling training focused on the Psychodynamic model; this type of counselling allows you to consider your past and perhaps recognise how some of your previous experiences are influencing your life today. In my practice I adopt a client-led integrative approach; which means I use my training in psychodynamic, humanistic and CBT counselling approaches and my experience to bring a mix of skills and techniques specifically tailored to your needs.

My background is in NHS healthcare, with over twenty years’ experience as a Speech and Language therapist, caring for and treating adults with a  wide range of physical and mental health issues which I now draw upon in my counselling practice.

My counselling experience is wide-ranging and includes volunteering and working for organisations including Cruse Bereavement Care UK, MIND, Lifeline (a mental health helpline) and Choices (counselling for individuals who have experienced childhood sexual abuse). I have considerable experience working with depression, anxiety, panic attacks, stress, trauma, childhood sexual abuse, self-harm, low self-esteem, bereavement, women's health, work-related stress, relationship issues and other difficult emotional challenges.

I have full Public Liability and Professional Indemnity Insurance and I hold an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check (DBS)

In line with BACP standards my practice is supervised by an experienced, BACP registered senior counsellor. I also undertake regular continuing professional development to enhance my practice.

Please contact me if you have any questions.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
