About me

Hello, I’m Alison and I am an integrative counsellor. Taking the first step towards counselling can feel a little daunting and full of unknowns. So, to feel safe is essential. I provide a warm, non-judgmental space, allowing you to talk openly and express your feelings, knowing that you will be heard. By supporting you in exploring the areas you find most difficult, I aim to help you gain a greater understanding of your situation, working with you to access the appropriate tools for managing emotions and facilitating change.

I work with adults aged 18 and over. My clinical experience includes working with depression, anxiety and low self-esteem, relationship/family relationship issues, domestic violence and abuse.

I have worked with an agency which supports survivors of domestic violence and abuse. Alongside my private practice, I am a counsellor for a charity in Aylesbury which works alongside individuals facing a number of life issues such as depression, anxiety, addiction and relationship breakdown.

I was in education (for over twenty years) and have an understanding of the pressures faced by parents on a daily basis. As a former teacher, I have a deep awareness of the issues and demands facing those working in this field.

Using a client-centred approach, I draw on a range of theoretical ideas enabling individuals to explore their issues and develop greater self-awareness. These include Person-Centred therapy, Transactional Analysis,  and Psychodynamic Theory. I offer one to one counselling, either short or long-term, depending on the needs of the client.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
