About me

I'm Ali, a qualified and BACP Registered Counsellor and Psychotherapist, and I understand that life can be tough, especially when things happen that we can't control. We can find ourselves in unhappy situations and patterns, and it can be hard to know what to do. We might be unable to enjoy the present, because of the sadness or anger in our past or our fear of the future. We may find ourselves acting in ways that we don't like, or struggling to maintain relationships that are important to us.

My role as a therapist is to support you in exploring these problems. I'm here to listen and help you find answers by considering what's important to you. Together, we can talk about how you're feeling, how your past might impact you today, what you find difficult and what brings you happiness.

Through meaningful conversations, I'll help you to understand the problems you're facing, build your confidence and resilience, and grow in a way that leads to a more positive future.

To help you explore your feelings and problems it's important that you feel safe, understood and cared for. I fully believe we are all doing the best we can, and I provide a non-judgemental and confidential space where you can talk, when you're ready and at your own pace, without shame or guilt.

While everyone’s situation is different, I have experience supporting clients with a range of challenges, including:

  • Relationship issues
  • Family issues
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Low self-esteem and confidence
  • Identity concerns & personal development

Getting started

It’s important that you feel comfortable and able to speak freely with me. Therefore, I offer a free initial 30 minute session online to allow us to get to know each other.

Within this session we’ll explore what brings you to therapy, what you’d like to achieve from it, and you can ask any questions you may have. We’ll also discuss if we can work together, and whether you’d like to continue with further sessions. There would be no obligation to book any further sessions.

If you would like to continue, we would arrange weekly 50 minute sessions. I offer sessions online and in-person at my practices in Guildford and Clapham Junction.

To arrange a free initial session, please email me at hello@alipitfieldcounselling.com or book a free introductory call through the Counselling Directory at a time that works for you.

Training, qualifications & experience

  • MA in Integrative Counselling & Psychotherapy
  • BA (Hons) in Anthropology & Cultural Studies
  • I continue to evolve my practice and development through regular additional training and CPD. I particularly focus on the importance of relationships, the use of play and humour in our resilience and ability to cope, and strengthening self-esteem and confidence.

Prior to my private practice I have extensive experience working for Counselling Organisations supporting those struggling with a wide range of difficulties, including but not limited to; depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, sexual abuse, suicidal feelings, self-esteem, confidence and independence.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
