About me

I am a qualified Psychotherapeutic Counsellor with a specific interest in adult ADHD and practise using an integrative, relational approach to therapy:

  • Integrative in that I’m not limited to working within one therapeutic approach or ‘style of counselling’. I’m able to flexibly draw from different approaches, primarily person-centred, gestalt and psychodynamic.
  • Relational as I recognise most difficulties we experience come from our relationships with others, and it is the relationship between client and therapist that underpins effective therapeutic work.

I am experienced in working with adults on a broad range of issues.

I have a special interest in working with neurodiversity, particularly adult awareness or late diagnosis of ADHD, its emotional impact and its affect on behaviour and relationships.

I also work with men’s issues, for example; expectations, roles, identity, parenting, emotional awareness, expression and safety, and interpersonal and intimate relationships. In my experience, doing this work with another man can be especially meaningful.

What you can expect from working with me:

I work with kindness and compassion to provide a safe and non-judgmental space for you to be heard and understood and to get what you need from our work together.

We will work collaboratively and I’ll be an engaged, active participant in helping you work towards your therapeutic goals: I won’t just sit there nodding or reflecting back on what you say to me. I am with you but will also challenge you and encourage you to take reasonable risks, when appropriate.

I don’t have all the answers and I’m not the expert on you – I firmly believe that you are.

But going it alone is tough and by working together, we stand a much better chance at finding the right words for you to understand yourself, your experiences and your relationships.

The relationship between client and therapist is unique, one that isn’t experienced anywhere else, and one where you are at its centre.

I am separate from your social circles and family, and won’t judge, give my opinion or advise you on what to do. Together we can create a space that is entirely focused on you and what you need. Given how crucial the relationship is between client and therapist, it is important you feel we are a good fit. If we work together, we will check in regularly to see how things are between us and if you’re getting what you need from our work.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
