About me

How do you know who is the right counsellor for you? It can seem like a minefield with sometimes hundreds to choose from. I offer a free 20 minute telephone consultation to help you decide, so you are then able to make a more informed decision.

We all make choices everyday, sometimes without much effort but this one does require more consideration. What I can guarantee for you, is that you will receive a counselling experience tailored to your needs, one that will be respectful and non-judgemental, professional at all times yet personal, all in a safe and confidential space. If you would like to feel listened to and understood without fear of judgement or rejection. If you would like to work out how to move forward and improve yourself and overcome your problem then please contact me.

  • I have vast experience in working with anxiety and have suffered with anxiety and some of the symptoms myself in the past. Because of that experience I have a good success rate in helping people overcome their battle with anxiety.
  • I have experience in working with individuals affected by a cancer diagnosis.
  • I also work in primary schools as a child Counsellor and do lots of work with teachers and school staff in the education sector.

Just consider this for a moment...

We'll go to the doctor when we feel unwell physically: sore throat, flu, bad cough. So why don’t we see a health professional when we feel emotional pain? guilt, loss or loneliness - if we are feeling sad or having relationship or family issues, breakups/divorce or family betrayal, the list goes on. Too many of us deal with common psychological-health issues on our own, but we don’t have to. We can go and see someone, someone who will be able to understand our situation and help. Emotional health is as important as our physical health. You wouldn't leave a broken leg untreated would you? You would go and see the doctor, that trained professional who can provide the help you need.

I focus on working with you, to help you feel at ease and comfortable when coming to counselling. If you feel nervous or anxious about attending counselling this is also something we can work on and help you feel more relaxed about. I possess a natural quality that helps people feel at ease, which is great for any potential client seeking counselling who may be feeling anxious about seeing a counsellor and what it entails.

I am a fully qualified Integrative Counsellor. This means I use three approaches to counselling, these approaches are: Person Centred Therapy, Transactional Analysis and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. I am also a registered member of the BACP, NCS and I am an approved therapist with Anxiety UK

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

How Counselling can Help You

I am dedicated to providing you with a confidential and safe environment, this environment is also built around the therapeutic relationship. A client is usually more successful in counselling when they experience a positive and professional relationship with their counsellor. Work can be challenging but is insightful and influential for you the client. With your commitment we will find ways together that suit you and work best for you. Belief, dedication and hard work really do create successful results.

What To Expect In Your First Session

Your first session will initially focus on "contracting". Contracting or a "Working Agreement" in Counselling is very important, it addresses things like "confidentiality", "appointment times", "fees" and other areas of counselling. In this session you are made aware of the service I offer and what you can expect to receive at all stages of your counselling journey. This part of counselling is important for us both to agree on and understand.  After we have looked at the working agreement and you are happy with the offer of service we will then start to explore the reason that has brought you to counselling.
