About me

Life can be tough at times and it can be difficult to know where to turn. You may be experiencing low mood or anxiety or changes in your behaviour in reaction to issues in your life.

You maybe struggling with low self-esteem which results in feelings of worthlessness and people pleasing behaviours. Counselling can help to increase your self knowledge and help you to place value on yourself.

My aim as your counsellor is to provide you with a safe, caring and confidential space where you would have time to make sense of any difficulties or distress that you may be experiencing.

I do not give you advice but offer a supportive environment where you can develop greater self-awareness and make changes to your life. I believe that you are the expert in your life and I will always respect that.

I am a qualified counsellor and an Accredited member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy.  As a member of the BACP I am committed to continual personal and professional development and abide by their code of ethics for good practice.

One of the reasons I trained as a counsellor was that I have had my own therapy and know from my own personal experience how helpful it can be.

As you are reading this it would appear that you have taken the first step to making changes in your life.  If you would like further information please call me and leave a message on my confidential voicemail or email me at info@philomenacounselling.co.uk and I will get back to you asap.

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.

All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

I have a special interest in working with self-esteem issues. I feel that low self-esteem or self worth can be at the root of many other problems and issues in a person life.

Low self-esteem/worth can lead to feelings of depression and anxiety and other mental health issues and behaviour problems.

Having good self-esteem is important in having good mental health. This is why I feel that working on our self-esteem is very important and can lead to a happier more contented life.

If you feel that this is an area you would like to work on please get in contact
