Trisha P Packer, MBACP(Snr.Accred) Counselling & Supervision
My name is Trisha Packer, and I am a Person-Centred Integrative Counsellor, working with young people, and adults, individuals and couples, This means I work with you to try to understand how you feel about any problems or difficulties you are facing. We then work together to help you find ways to overcome these blockages, to achieve what you want and need in order to become the very best that you can be. I will use whatever works best for my clients, to help them get the best results in the shortest period of time. I have been trained in a variety of different Counselling Approaches and will integrate these into our work together where appropriate. I have an open and accepting nature and can rapidly build a trusting relationship with clients of any age. I have extensive experience of working with both Adults and Teenagers, and I have a good understanding of the range of problems people may be facing and which they may choose to bring to counselling.
I view everyone as an individual and prefer to work with the whole client, rather than trying to label them or their problems.
I am a Senior Accredited BACP Counsellor which means that I am registered with the BACP (British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists), who have assessed my qualifications and experience to be of a higher standard. I am based in Dalton-in-Furness and there is on street parking available immediately outside. I am also close to good public transport links, both bus and train.
I offer a FREE initial consultation, as I believe the relationship between client and counsellor is very important, and it is only by engaging with each other that we can assess the strength of this. I will then aim to work with you to achieve a positive and trusting relationship, from where we are able to openly explore whatever difficulties you may be experiencing, and with my support, help you to find a way to help you move beyond these to a more resourceful and better functioning position.
Every person will have their own individual needs, and it is not possible to predict exactly how many sessions someone will want. But in my experience, clients can often make significant progress within 6-12 sessions. But for very complex difficulties, more sessions may be required and I am happy to work longer term with clients if this is needed.
Covid-19 Update and Online work
We are all hearing about the potential impact of the Corona Virus – Covid-19. To reassure my clients, I have prepared the following information for any current and potential clients.
I encourage my clients to consider whether they would prefer to have therapy sessions with me face-to-face, ie by attending my therapy practice, or if they would prefer, I can also offer to work either over the telephone or using an online communications platform such as Skype or Zoom.
I am taking as much care as possible to ensure that after I see a client, the surfaces are cleaned and sanitized, and I am asking all clients who wish to attend to keep me informed if they feel unwell, and to reconsider using a remote method of access such as phone or Skype. Bathroom facilities are available for all clients who wish to wash their hands on arrival and when leaving our sessions.
If you feel you would prefer to not attend my premises, and go to telephone or online work, please contact me to discuss this.
Training, qualifications & experience
My counselling qualifications include a BA(Hons) in Counselling Studies, a diploma in Person-Centred Counselling, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling Children and Young People. I regularly undertake additional training and CPD (Continuous Professional Development) in different modalities and specialities, such as Bereavement Counselling, Couple Counselling, Crisis and Trauma Counselling, Addiction Counselling, Working with Self-Harm and Online Counselling. I have a special interest in helping clients build their self-esteem and confidence.
I have previously worked with CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services), and within an NHS service as a Counsellor with both Adults and Young People. I now work fully self-employed, which means I can offer more flexibility with appointment times, and regularly offer daytimes and evening appointments on Monday-Friday.
I have also completed an Externship in using Emotionally Focussed Therapy with Couples.
