About me
My name is Trisha Packer, and I am a Person-Centred Integrative Counsellor, working with young people, and adults, individuals and couples, This means I work with you to help you understand how you feel about any problems or difficulties you are facing. We then work together to find ways to overcome these blockages, to achieve what you want and need in order to become the very best that you can be. I have been trained in a variety of different Counselling Approaches and will integrate these into our work together to help you get the best results in the shortest period of time. I have an open and accepting nature and can rapidly build a trusting relationship with clients of any age. I have extensive experience of working with both adults and teenagers, and I have a good understanding of the range of problems people can face which may bring them to counselling.
I view everyone as an individual and prefer to work with the whole client, rather than trying to label them or their problems.
I am a Senior Accredited BACP Counsellor which means that I am registered with the BACP (British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists), who have assessed my qualifications and experience to be of a higher standard. I offer remote sessions using either Zoom or Skype for Video Calls, as well as telephone for audio work, and I can also see clients in person if you are able to travel to see me. I am based in Dalton-in-Furness and there is on street parking available immediately outside. I am also close to good public transport links, both bus and train.
I believe the relationship between client and counsellor is very important, and it is only by engaging with each other that we can assess the strength of this. Because of this, I recommend that we arrange a first FREE contact meeting either over the phone or on Zoom (video chat) where we can explore a little around what you want from the counselling and I can summarize the main points of my contract. This first meeting would usually be about 15 minutes long, and we can then arrange a first appointment where we can go into your needs in more depth.
Training, qualifications & experience
My counselling qualifications include a BA(Hons) in Counselling Studies, a diploma in Person-Centred Counselling, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling Children and Young People. I regularly undertake additional training and CPD (Continuous Professional Development) in different modalities and specialities, such as Bereavement Counselling, Couple Counselling, Crisis and Trauma Counselling, Addiction Counselling, Working with Self-Harm and Online Counselling. I have a special interest in helping clients build their self-esteem and confidence.
I have previously worked with CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services), and within an NHS service as a Counsellor with both Adults and Young People. I now work fully self-employed, which means I can offer more flexibility with appointment times, and regularly offer daytimes and evening appointments on Monday-Friday.
I have also completed an Externship in using Emotionally Focussed Therapy with Couples.
Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

After you make an initial enquiry with me, we would arrange a time to have a first FREE call of about 15 minutes - either over the phone or using Zoom or Skype. This is an opportunity for us to discuss your needs, and assess whether counselling with me is the right option for you at this time. In order for you to gain the maximum you can from the counselling, you need to feel comfortable talking with me, and this first chat can allow you to assess this without any pressure.
Ongoing sessions for Individuals - £50 for a session of 50 minutes
Ongoing sessions for Couples - £55 for a session of 50 minutes.
Longer sessions can be arranged with the price increased accordingly.
