About me

WORKING WITH YOU, TO FIND A WAY FORWARD...  I am a Registered & Senior Accredited Counsellor, with over 20 years experience, offering you, a service tailored to your needs and requirements.  I work with Adult individuals, face to face, on both a long and short term basis.

My counselling experience includes working with issues such as:

Anxiety, Assertiveness Skills Development, Bereavement, Bullying, Carer Support, Career Development, Depression, Generalised Anxiety, General Counselling, Grief, Low Self Esteem, Low Self Confidence, Management Development, Personal Coaching, Personal Development, Relationship Issues, Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), Stress and Work Related Issues, to name just a few.

I have a special interest in working with Stress, Stress Management and Work Related Stress issues and have had training in recognising and coping with Stress and it's effects.

In addition to self referrals, I also work with:

  • Human Resource (HR) Departments for Private Organisations
  • Other Counselling Organisations
  • Student Counsellors in Training

My original Counsellor Training was in the Humanistic Approach.  This means that I see you as a unique individual capable of making choices, asking for what you need and able to take responsibility for your own actions.

Once qualified, I also developed an interest in working with the Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) approach to Counselling (thought and behavioural patterns) and feel that the way I work as a Counsellor complements both theories and approaches.

I love working as a Counsellor because I have a desire to make a difference in the life of others.

I have had many occasions in Counselling Practice where I have seen "light bulbs go on" and witnessed my client telling me that their life has changed as a result of new insight.

This is a joy for me to be a part of.  Seeing another grow, through recognition that they can and realising that they can do this through their own abilities, is essentially why I work as a Counsellor.

When I embark on a Counselling relationship all I ever ask of myself is that I give my best to you, using the best techniques and theory, I am aware of to help and educate you.

If you like, give you the tools to work with.  The rest is up to you, you work within the process and take what you need from it.

  • Counselling Takes Place in a Confidential Setting and is an equal partnership where we work together to explore your thoughts, feelings, patterns and options
  • The Aim of Counselling is to enable you to make sense of your situation, whilst working towards coming to terms with new experiences and facing them with less tension and anxiety.
  • Counselling Involves looking at yourself and your problem and ways in which you can feel more at ease within your situation to begin to make decisions about where you want to be, by looking at where you are now

I have British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) Senior Accreditation which means that my practice has been deemed to meet the BACP higher standard, as a competent, ethical and independent practitioner.

My BACP Registration Number is 025638. My Registration and Accreditation details can be verified via the BACP website www.bacp.co.uk

I also have Senior Accredited Membership of The National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society, having fulfilled the required criteria, to be considered by the society, to be safe, competent and ethical to practise the vocation of Counselling

As a BACP Senior Accredited Counsellor I am bound by its Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy and subject to the Professional Conduct Procedure therein for the time being in force and as revised from time to time.

As I work with Adult individuals only, I am unable to offer Couple Counselling, or Counselling Services to those under the age of 18

Thank you for taking the time to read my profile.  If you decide that Counselling may be of benefit to you and that I may be the right Counsellor for you, please contact me to arrange an appointment.

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Wheelchair user access
Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.

I operate from my private residential property built in 2007. Door widths are compliant with DDA requirements at the time of building. There is a upward slope to access the front doorway.
