About me

You might be struggling with difficult feelings like anxiety, depression, low moods or relationship issues, losses and need some support understanding what is going on for you. You might just be feeling unsatisfied with life and feel something is wrong and need to speak about this. You don’t have to be in crisis to seek therapy. I can provide a safe, welcoming and non judgemental space where you can talk about what's causing problems in your life and together we can find ways to make your life more stress free, comfortable and fulfilling.

I am a qualified counsellor/therapist and have a private practice based in Clapton, Hackney, Walthamstow and online. As an integrative therapist I believe in the idea that there are many ways in which to work with clients - no one theory, practice or technique alone holds the answer.

Prior to becoming a therapist, I worked as a lecturer in the visual arts with young and mature adults for many years in further education and saw that the most valuable learning happens when students feel heard and valued. I now bring that non-judgmental and caring attention to my therapeutic work.

How I work

The difference careful and empathic listening can make to a client's self understanding and to their symptoms can be life changing!

Therapy is really about the working relationship, the emotional bond we have and if that feels supportive and safe then many positive changes can and do happen.

I like to work relationally and interpersonally in that I will endeavour to understand you from inside your lived experience and share that with you and how your personal relational context is very significant.  Relationships with others? How do others see me? Am I good enough?  Am I worth something? What happens to me? When the answers aren't good, you feel bad about yourself and this can wear you down.

'Our self image is often formulated by the reflected appraisals we perceive in the eyes of important figures in our life.'  Yalom

I cannot tell you what to do or advice you. Therapy is collaborative, sitting together and exploring your experiences, thoughts, feelings, & desires, giving these the time and attention they deserve which can be difficult but definitely worthwhile for lasting change.

I have worked with clients with many issues like isolation, addictions, depression, anxiety, sexual abuse, low self worth, major loss and bereavement, relationship break-ups/ difficulties, work/life balance and work related problems. My approach is integrative which means I can work with many different approaches to find the best way that suits you.

Integration of self is a therapeutic aim; by that I mean healing a divided self by helping the client become more aware of different parts of themselves to become more coherent, whole and feel more real. When you, the client, feel emotionally held and safe enough to connect to your inner selves, in the context of your relationship with your therapist, then change, growth and healing can really start to happen.

Successful treatment depends on the person and the circumstances, but these might include the capacity to have more fulfilling relationships, make more effective use of one’s talents and abilities, maintain a realistically based sense of self-esteem, tolerate a wider range of affect, have more satisfying sexual experiences, understand self and others in more nuanced and sophisticated ways, and face life’s challenges with greater freedom and flexibility. Such ends are pursued through a process of self-reflection, self-exploration, and self-discovery that takes place in the context of a safe and deeply authentic relationship between therapist and client.

I am a qualified therapist registered with the BACP working in East London. Underlying my training and work is a commitment to diversity and inclusion and I encourage an environment where my clients can be themselves.

I am in regular clinical supervision, which supports my practice.

Clients sometimes work with me on a medium or long term basis depending on the issues. I can offer a free initial telephone call and then a consultation, if you wish, for you to tell me in more detail about your problems and how we can work together to reduce and overcome them.

Please get in touch with me on the links above and I will get back to you asap.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a qualified integrated therapist registered with the BACP.  I trained at the Minster Centre in London.

I have worked for Hackney Recovery Service, a part of St. Mungoes, helping people recover from addictions to alcohol and drugs.

I also worked for Talking Counselling located at Liverpool St, London.

I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP) and abide by their code of ethics. I have many years experience counselling and helping people. I spent considerable time in art education teaching in further and higher education working with young people and mature students. My background and training is in the fine arts and currently run a successful painting practice.

Presently I work online and/or face to face from consulting rooms in Clapton and Walthamstow

I can speak to you on the phone and afterwards set up a face to face consultation to speak in more detail and depth about your issues.

I will answer any questions you might have about the process of therapy.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
