Stephanie Walker.Graduate Diploma in Integrative Counselling.Reg.MBACP
Hello my name is Stephanie. You might like to know why I chose this profession? From as early as 12 years old I found myself being interested and drawn to how people behaved and what made them tick. I always felt a natural inclination to building relationships and working with clients on an indepth level. Along the journey I have personally experienced the loss of both my parents along with other losses which have helped me to grow both professionally and personally.I have grown through my own adversity and perhaps counselling can benefit you and help you to grow and learn through your adversity too. I specialize in Bereavement and Grief work. None of us can escape loss, however how we respond and deal with our losses we can choose and this is individual to us all. Loss comes in many different forms and it is not just through death. Loss of a job, health, pet, relationships touches on a few. Sometimes you may need someone just to walk alongside you so you can explore the many different emotions that grief evokes. To help you to navigate your way through some emotions you may have never experienced before but at the same time are perfectly normal. My practice takes place in Huddersfield West Yorkshire. Fundamentally my approach is Person Centred. My aim is to build a trusting relationship and safe environment where my clients can explore their issues and begin the process of change by experimenting with new behaviours which will work for them.
Counselling shines a light on the more difficult areas of life which perhaps need to be looked at and explored in more fullness and detail. For clients who find it difficult or awkward to verbalize what is going on for them emotionally, I will then introduce a more creative way of working. For example, drawing or writing can turn a key and help clients to express themselves more freely. Use of shells, pebbles and soft toys can all have their place in the right session at the right time.
I use my skills, knowledge and experience as a counsellor but also my intuition can play a part in the sessions.
I also work well with clients who are experiencing:-
- Low confidence/self-esteem issues
- Stress/anxiety/mild to moderate depression
- Setting boundaries/Knowing your limits
- Learning to be assertive
- Managing your emotions, especially difficult ones
- Managing change/transitions
Counselling asks for your commitment. There is no better investment than your own personal development. Small steps lead to big changes if consistent over time.
Counselling is not a conversation once a week,it is work but the benefits are huge.

Contrary to societies view on a person seeking counselling being weak, it is quite the opposite and shows immense strength and courage. It shows that that person wants to live a better life, make peace with their past and move forward with new coping strategies and increased self- assurance.
Courage is taking action in spite of fear.
Any questions and/or concerns about counselling then please do ask, your questions are important to me. It is all part of building a trusting, working relationship.
I can also work with employers to help with employee retention and thus save employers money in the long run.
I can do this on a freelance or contract basis.
