About me

I know that stepping forward and admitting I need help with this can be frightening and getting over that first hurdle can feel enormous. However life begins beyond your comfort zone and also building the counselling relationship with me fostering a safe and trusting space so you can explore your issues can be so healing and transformative. As little as 6 to 12 sessions can be so powerful and beneficial to your life.

An initial assessment enables you to meet me and I you and for you to have the opportunity to share your story. Then decide...

Dealing with Bereavement and Grief

I specialise in Bereavement and Grief work.Loss is part of all our lives, how we respond and deal with our losses is a choice. Loss comes in many different forms and it is not just through death. Loss of a job, health, pet, relationships touches on a few. Sometimes you may need someone just to walk alongside you so you can explore the many different emotions that grief evokes. To help you to navigate your way through some emotions you may have never experienced before but at the same time are perfectly normal.

I work from home either face to face or via video call.

Fundamentally my approach is Person Centred. My aim is to build a trusting relationship and safe environment where you can explore your emotions and begin the process of change by becoming self aware and understanding yourself more which leads to experimenting with new behaviours which you learn through the counselling process. All leading to a fulfilling relationship with yourself. Letting go of outdated behavioural patterns.

Creative ways of working in counselling

Counselling shines a light on the more difficult areas of life which perhaps need to be looked at and explored in more fullness and detail.

There are different ways of working in counselling and together we will find a way that is right for you.

I use my skills, knowledge and experience as a counsellor but also my intuition can play a part in the sessions.

I also work well with clients who are experiencing:-

  • Low confidence/self-esteem issues
  • Stress/anxiety/mild to moderate depression
  • Setting boundaries/Knowing your limits
  • Learning to be assertive
  • Managing your emotions, especially difficult ones
  • Managing change/transitions
  • Anger Issues
  • Family issues
  • Trauma
  • Domestic Violence

Counselling asks for your commitment. There is no better investment than your own personal development. Small steps lead to big changes if consistent over time

THE BENEFITS of COUNSELLING

  • Self- belief
  • Better understanding of self
  • Increased self-awareness
  • Getting back in touch with your emotional self.
  • Learning new, effective coping strategies
  • Learning to stand back and respond to situations/people rather than reacting
  • Increased tolerance of difficult feelings/situations
  • Facing reality, not avoiding
  • Learning to negotiate and manage change
  • Learning to say no without feeling guilty
  • Setting boundaries
  • Increased confidence and self-esteem
  • A fulfilling relationship with self
  • Assertiveness
  • Learning to grieve, let go and come to a place of acceptance

Still uncertain?

Ask yourself these questions:-

1. Do you feel that you are running into the same problems again and again?

2. Do you think about past traumas for unreasonable amounts of time?

3.Is your work or home life suffering?

4.Do you no longer enjoy things that once gave you pleasure?

5.Do you find yourself drinking/overeating/taking drugs to feel better?

If you answered yes to at least 3 of these questions counselling would really be of benefit for your life.

An Initial Assessment is for 1 hour and the fee is £35 payable at the time of the session.

You can ring or email me and of course, there is no obligation. Also if you decide to go ahead with counselling you can decide to end your sessions at any time. You are in charge and I go at your pace. I meet you each week wherever you are in your development.

I trust all my clients have their answers within. A successful working alliance and safe environment would be of benefit to anyone struggling with any of the issues that I have mentioned.

Please do not be afraid to contact me if you need to ask any questions.

Myths about counselling

Contrary to societies view on a person seeking counselling being weak, it is quite the opposite and shows immense strength and courage. It shows that that person wants to live a better life, make peace with their past and move forward with new coping strategies and increased self- assurance.

Courage is taking action in spite of fear.

Any questions and/or concerns about counselling then please do ask, your questions are important to me.

Work with employers

I offer a confidential workplace counselling service, usually 6 to 8 sessions. I am looking for a short contract as it is important to build a good working relationship with the employer.

Workplace counselling can potentially be viewed as part of an employers duty of care towards staff well being.

I also offer half day workshops for organisations such as Learning to be Assertive,Emotional Intelligence in the Workplace and a Bereavement Workshop. £450 for 8 delegates.

Please see my website to see the benefits of workplace counselling.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

By speaking to you and working through my life I now understand the reasons. I found you very professional and easy to speak to and understanding. As the sessions progressed so did my life for the better,so I thank you.I am 100% happier now and my life is going on an upward course. Thank you."

"To anyone who may want to read this:-"

"I was a normal, happy adult working/family etc when a sudden turn of events sent my life spiralling into which I can only explain as hell. This was a period of real darkness in my life when I could not see any future or to be honest any reason to carry on.

No medication/friends/family or my doctor could get me out of the way I felt. But I really needed help.

I was introduced to Stef who was brilliant. Things had to be taken really slowly with me due to my state of mind. She was professional/caring/patient and honest. Because of Stef she helped me turn a massive corner to getting my life back on track and to realise there is a future.Life throws allsorts of ups and downs at us but I was never prepared for what came my way.

A simple but heartfelt

THANK YOU STEF"
