About me

I offer counselling in a variety of ways: face-to-face counselling from my home in the Boscombe area of Bournemouth, and also online counselling via Zoom, Skype, or What's App video link.  In addition, for those who like to walk, I have opened up the opportunity for Walk and Talk sessions, ensuring confidentiality is kept in place.

To help you take that first step to commence counselling, I offer a free 30-minute introductory session for new clients; with no obligation to book further sessions.

I am a Humanistic Integrative counsellor, therefore I work with a variety of techniques, depending on my client's needs, and these techniques are held within a structured framework.

I have worked as a counsellor and supervisor for several years with clients who were bereaved.  I have worked with a wide age range - from children to clients in their 80's. Clients I have worked with had a variety of struggles: survivors of abuse and those with fears and phobias. This work included working with feelings around power and control, the loss of childhood; strong feelings of guilt and shame, low self-esteem and so much more.

Training, qualifications & experience

I started counselling in 2008, whilst studying at Diploma level. In 2014 I achieved a BA in counselling with Second Class Honours (Upper division). I have attended further training regarding trauma, sexual abuse, dissociation, eating disorders and working creatively.

I am an accredited counsellor and registered member of the BACP, and as such I am bound by its ethical framework for good practice.

I see clients one-to-one for both short and long term work and have an emphasis on working within the relationship developing trust and growing in honest and real communication.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

During our current experience of the coronavirus there has been great distress alongside the fear of the virus itself. Many are experiencing a variety of issues including anxiety, so maybe this is a good opportunity to find help with them.

I work in a way that will help you to use the time and space to talk about the things that are of concern without feeling judged.

During the initial session we can agree your goals and objectives in therapy and then work towards them, whilst providing ongoing help and support.

I am an accredited integrative counsellor. I am trained in a variety of different counselling theories and aim to provide a safe, non-judgmental and confidential relationship, by walking alongside you, facilitating healing and enabling you to reach your goals. Counselling provides support and professional help by talking about the problems you are experiencing in life.

I see clients Tuesday - Saturday; appointments are available during the daytime and evening.

I welcome any individual, whatever their religious belief or background.  I offer both long-term and short-term counselling. Short-term counselling is offered to develop strategies of coping, and longer-term counselling provides opportunity to consider issues at a deeper level, which is vital for clients struggling with more complex issues such as trauma and abuse.
