About me

HOW I CAN HELP YOU

Whatever difficulties you may be experiencing that have brought you to seek a counsellor, I acknowledge you in taking that step.

I understand that life can at times be challenging, and it can be hard to work things out alone, and you may not feel able to do so with family and friends. Talking to a professional counsellor can really help you.

I am a qualified and experienced Humanistic counsellor and psychotherapist, based in Godalming, Surrey, working with adults of all ages and backgrounds. I also work with young people and children aged 5 - 18. I work on both a short or long term basis depending on the needs of the individual. With younger children I use play therapy.

People can come to counselling for all kinds of reasons, and each individual’s experience is unique. I work with the theories of Person-Centred, Existential and Gestalt Therapy, in a way that is best suited for each individual.

I can offer you a safe, confidential, comfortable and welcoming environment where you can express your feelings, attitudes and beliefs openly and freely without fear of judgement. We will work together, at your pace, exploring your emotions, worries and experiences. I will be there alongside you, as you move your life in a direction that is right for you.

I believe that we all have the capacity for growth, healing and change within us. As a Humanistic counsellor and psychotherapist, I seek to help individuals recognise their choices, strengths, and creativity in the present. Past events, experiences and relationships are still of paramount relevance, but are explored in relation to their importance on the present.

Through working with my clients and my own life experiences, I have developed a deep empathy for all of us dealing with how tough it can sometimes be to be human. My work is about navigating this to come to greater understanding, acceptance and enjoyment of life.

MY EXPERIENCE

I have a lot of experience in helping people to recover from loss – of loved ones, of course - but also the loss of a relationship, a job, a home, self-esteem, purpose and direction and all the consequences of those losses. My purpose is to help you recover and go on to thrive.

I also have experience working with issues including anxiety, low self-esteem, relationship / family issues, eating disorders, addiction, self-harm, depression, stress, anger management, life changes, personal development and sexual abuse, and with bereavement and loss and terminal illness having counselled at the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice for near on two years.

I currently volunteer with Place2Be as a counsellor for children in a school setting, and the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice with their children's bereavement group.

My background prior to my counselling career was working with special needs children. I equally balanced their educational needs with their personal development needs to transform the way they could experience and perform within a school environment. Through being empathic, loving, consistent, congruent and non-judgemental, change occurred. I also worked with their families, therapeutically, to assist with the change.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

TESTIMONIALS

“Stacey has all the qualities you would expect from an excellent counsellor - great insight and integrity; warmth, compassion and empathy; neutrality, professionalism, clear boundaries, and a non-judgmental approach. However, I would say her biggest skill is her exceptional ability to really listen and understand what’s really going on and to ask insightful and direct questions that really help you to cut through your fears and fantasies and see the truth for yourself. Stacey doesn’t give you the answers but she certainly helps you find next steps and solutions. And she’s not afraid to challenge you when you are not being true to yourself (kindly and gently of course) and she encourages you to take concrete steps to move towards the life you want. Weird analogy but having counselling with Stacey is like having a dirty oven that you are sure is beyond salvaging but then someone hands you a can of oven cleaner, shows you how to use it and stays with you while you wipe all the grime away to uncover the shine underneath. What previously seemed an impossible transformation has in fact been much easier than you ever dared dreamed.” ASB

“Stacey is the most empathetic counsellor I have ever met. I have felt incredibly supported by her through some very hard times.” AW

“Stacey has a gentle, yet strong presence that is supportive and spacious. Sometimes problems are not solvable, like the death of a loved one. Stacey was able to listen and be with me in a way that made me feel understood and less alone in my grief. She created a feeling of safety because she had no judgement or impatience. Somehow our interactions have helped reduce the sting of my pain.” JS
