About us

It doesn’t matter if you’d like help with long-standing issues, or more recent developments, are looking for long term support or just a few sessions to get things back on track, we can help with whatever you're struggling with.

The important thing is that you take that first step by getting in touch, and starting your journey with us.  It's why we do our best to schedule an initial appointment within a week of you contacting us (dependent on timeslot and therapist requested).

We understand that taking that reaching out for help can be daunting, so we aim to reply to all emails within 24 hours whenever possible. If you don’t hear from us in this time, please check your junk/spam folder, as sometimes our emails get diverted, or resend via the contact form on our website at counsellingstjohns.com, just in case our email filter has been over-enthusiastic and we haven't seen your message!

St John’s is a busy practice in Bromsgrove, with over 20 therapists available, and a wide range of experience, interests, and ways of working. This means that we can take the stress out of finding a counsellor, because we can usually identify a therapist that would suit you, without you having to make multiple calls, or wait on different therapists to get back to you.

We believe that therapy should be made available to people who need it, not just those that can afford standard private rate prices.  So to be as inclusive as we can, some of our therapists are trainees with costs starting from just £20 a session.

The practical stuff:

- All our therapists, including trainees, are members of a professional body
- Male and female therapists are available
- The Low Cost Service (£20 sessions) is only open to adults at this time
- Appointments available 7 days a week, including most weekday evenings
- Minimal waiting times - we are often able to schedule an initial appointment within a week of you getting in touch with us (dependent on therapist and timeslot requested)

Training, qualifications & experience

All therapists at St John’s are qualified counsellors (or in the case or our trainee colleagues, working towards it), and all (including trainees) are members of a professional body, eg BACP, NCS.

Within the St John’s Team, we have a wide range of qualifications, experience and specialisms, and so we will be able to find someone to suit you, and whatever difficulties you are experiencing.

Member organisations *

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

We have verified that at least one professional at this organisation is registered with the relevant professional body.

Additional information

As a guide, you can expect to pay £45 - £55 for individual counselling, and £60 - £70 for couples counselling with fully qualified therapists. Some of our counsellors consider offering lower rates in certain circumstances, so if you feel that the cost is getting in the way of you getting the counselling support you need, please get in touch with us to discuss what we may be able to offer you.

For individual adult therapy, we also also have our Low Cost Service, at £20 per session, working with trainees completing their qualification. We will always aim to match you with a low cost counsellor when requested, but there may be times when we feel that a trainee does not have the necessary expertise to help you effectively. We would always aim to discuss the reasons for this with you, and help you find suitable alternative therapeutic support.
