About me

About my practice

Hello, I am Sophia.  I am a highly experienced integrative therapist, having supported many hundreds of individuals through my private practice since 2017; in person from my light and airy Hampshire base as well as online for those further away, or preferring their own safe and secure space- we can  work together wherever you are in the world.

Counselling offers a positive intervention that can be both rewarding and satisfying at times in our life when we most need it. Having the right support can help us gain a shared and wider perspective on our difficulties, this clarity can often bring some sense of relief and help us begin to feel better quite quickly. I work in support of individuals navigating uncertainty and opportunity around change, as well as those of us facing struggles with a wide range of personal issues including ; identifying and manage stress and anxiety, in its many forms, unprocessed childhood trauma, coping with illness and the grief and loss of loved ones, relationship issues; including handling conflict, improving communication and enhancing harmony as well as moving forward from an relationship breakdown. I  support individuals navigating both workplace opportunities and challenges ; building confidence in interviews, presentations and public speaking through to coping with workplace changes and redundancy. , Common theme across the work can lie in exploring and challenging unhelpful and self limiting self beliefs, reducing fear, strengthening our resilience and sense of self worth.

As a registered, accredited member of British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy  MBACP (Accred)  I have  demonstrated I have a high standard of knowledge, experience  and development that is widely valued throughout the industry NB my competences and practice  are aligned to Column B of the SCoPEd  Framework, a shared standards framework for professional  Counsellors and Psychotherapists working with adults.

How counselling can help

There are inevitably times in our lives where we face difficulties, we may find we feel ill equipped to face the challenges we are presented with and we can be unsure where to turn at such times and what steps we should take, You may be reading this as you face a particular issue, dilemma or situation you can readily identify that you know is the cause of your worry or distress. Perhaps you are caught in negative thinking patterns, coping with difficult feelings that are impacting on your emotional wellbeing. Whatever your situation, we can explore it together, and working together we aim  to find the best way forward for you.

Please do visit my website to read more detail on how I may be able to help or contact me for a initial no obligation conversation.

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

What to expect in your first session and beyond

It is a very personal experience working with a counsellor. Creating and maintaining an open, supportive and friendly relationship with you, free of any judgement, is my first working priority. It is this positive relationship that will enable us to work well together, so you can experience real benefits within your timescales.

Our work will be at a pace and level that feels right for you. As you move through the counselling process you will undoubtedly gain a deeper understanding of your inner thoughts and feelings. This clarity and insight can bring healing. It can also pave the way towards personal problem solving, leading in some cases to significant and lasting change.

Practical  Information

An initial 20 minute no obligation, non-chargeable consultation in person or via skype or phone is available. Individual sessions last 55 minutes and we would aim to have regular sessions over a period of time. There is no set length of time for this, for example an individual might benefit from short term counselling (approx. 6-12 sessions) or prefer a longer term approach, perhaps to explore the self in more depth or work with a longer term issue (up to 6 months or longer).

I work both online and face to face out of dedicated consulting room in the grounds of my home, which is situated in a quiet countryside location easily accessible from the  M3 motorway and approximately 7 miles from Basingstoke, Alresford and Alton.  I have plenty of off road parking. I work a range of hours including daytime and early evenings .
