About me

Individual and Couples Therapy

I am a qualified psychodynamic therapist with a Post-graduate Diploma in Human Relations and Counselling from Human Development Scotland (2020). I also hold a Post-graduate Certificate in Counselling Studies from The University of Edinburgh (2013) focussed on an integrative approach between psychodynamic and person-centred modalities. I am currently completing the Certificate in Couples Work with Physis Scotland.

My practice is influenced by a life-long interest in Jungian and Existential therapies, and by my considerable experience in energy therapy, all of which allow me to create a nurturing environment where clients can express themselves fully and begin to thrive. Additionally, my own multicultural background and varied professional history in educational and supportive roles has prepared me to engage with clients on a wide range of issues without judgment or preconceptions.

As a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) I abide by its Code of Ethics and Code of Practice  undertaking regular supervision and being committed to continuous professional development through training sessions, workshops and conferences. Current areas of interest include therapeutic body work/ movement and a whole-self approach to ADHD.

Individual Therapy

I offer both brief and long term individual therapy, usually in weekly 50-minute sessions in-person or online. In-person sessions take place at Dialogue & Space on Albion Road and Hudson House on Albany Street, Edinburgh. Online sessions are held mainly via Zoom and MS Teams, which allows me to support clients irrespective of their location in the UK.

Sessions can be held in English and/or Portuguese. I also have a firm grasp of French, Italian and Spanish, which has helped clients explore their issues in their own native languages.

The process of finding the right therapist can feel daunting, even for clients who have been in therapy in the past. Prior to a first individual session, I offer a 20-minute free-of-charge consultation via Zoom or MS Teams, so we can have an initial conversation and schedule our first session.

In our first session, you would be invited to approach the issue or issues that motivated you to seek a therapist. This initial exploration would allow us to get a sense of how our work would be like and decide whether we can work together. If so, we can then agree on the main focus of the work and its duration, usually from a minimum of 6 sessions to long-term or open-ended.

Couples Therapy

In addition to individual therapy, I also offer time-limited Couples Therapy. In this instance, the word Couple will mean any two people in a close relationship irrespective of its nature.

The goal in Couples Therapy is to increase the couple's awareness of their relational dynamics, as well as provide them with tools and strategies to better navigate the inevitable challenges of close relationships.

Unlike in individual therapy, I am unable to offer an initial consultation. Couples Therapy is time-limited and will consist of one 60-minute assessment session, followed by eight 90-minute therapy sessions, or by twelve 60-minute therapy sessions. At the end of the assessment session, we will decide whether we can work together and schedule the first therapy session. Each therapy session will take place every 2 weeks.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
