About me

I have my own Private Practice in Bradworthy. A very quiet space for clients to feel calm and safe. I take on face to face, telephone and zoom clients.

For over 6 years I Volunteered  at North Devon Hospice in both Barnstaple and Holsworthy for Bereavement and Pre-Bereavement patients and carers of End of Life.

We all find life challenging from time to time, we get stressed or suffer from low self esteem, we have lost a loved one and find it hard to cope alone, we lose our job through redundancy which causes financial worries, your feeling vulnerable and confused and just don't know which way to turn, or you have experienced abuse or trauma. It may take one tiny thing that will tip us over the edge where you feel you need to talk to someone who is non-judgemental but who will truly listen to you. I am a warm and caring person and here to walk along side you in whatever journey you are on, by holding a safe, quiet and confidential environment to work in. I am trained as an Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist which means I can adapt my therapy to your individual needs. I hope that my experience of several years working with many disciplines and where each individual needs are met, in a safe, comfortable and non-judgemental space will be somewhere you feel you want to open up to.

Whats the next step?

You can either call me on the mobile, please leave a message if it goes into answer machine as I am probably with a client but I will contact you as soon as I can, or you could email me with your contact details and I will email you as soon as I can.

We will then arrange a convenient time and day for you to come and meet me. this session will be an assessment session - this is for you to find out about how I work and what counselling involves. And I will find out more about you and what has brought you to counselling. Counselling is not just about listening and hearing you, you have to feel good about the person you want to share your problems with so that a Therapeutic Relationship can be formed. If you decide that you would like to work with me then we will arrange our first session to suit us both.

How I became a Counsellor

I am passionate about Birds of Prey and have been working with them for nearly twenty years, Falconry started as a Hobby, by being outdoors with my birds and my dogs I would get a sense of peace and calmness. The tranquility of a bird flying around you is a magical feeling.

I started a Falconry business, having clients who would buy experiences for themselves or their loved ones, and I found that they to would achieve a sense of peace by just being near myself and my birds. They would tell me their life stories, some of them were very traumatic.

One particular young lad came out to spend time with me and the birds, his mum bought him the experience and just told me he loved birds of prey, and at that time was not in a good place, it didn't take him long to feel safe in my company and over a cup of coffee he told me his story, he was shy and had been bullied and so dropped out of university. Each day he came back and I saw his confidence grow. By seeing these changes made my decision to train as a Counsellor feel the right thing to do.

A few years later he came back me for a refresher, and over lunch he told me that if it hadn't been for me, my patience, and someone he felt safe to talk to he wouldn't be where he was at that time. He had gone back to university and qualified, got himself a good job and was living in London, and he travels all over the world with his job! This confirmed to me that i was most definitely on the right path.

The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration.
