About me

Hello and welcome. My name is Sarah Holland and I provide a professional and welcoming private counselling service based in Amesbury, Wiltshire.

The First Step

Daunting isn't it, realising you need some help and looking for the right counsellor?

It takes courage to get this far, but looking through profiles can be overwhelming. You want to find someone you will feel truly comfortable talking to, but it's so hard to know through words and photos. I hope you find what you're looking for, either in my profile or elsewhere.

Maybe you have an uneasy feeling that things aren't right, but you just can't put your finger on exactly what's getting you down. Perhaps you know what the problem is, but you need a safe, confidential and supportive space, just for you, to be listened to and talk things through.

If you carry around emotional pain for long enough, that uncomfortable feeling can become the norm. You might worry about how counselling will change your relationship with that hurt feeling because keeping it boxed up and hidden inside you is what you're used to.

Keeping those thoughts and feelings contained can start to feel more and more difficult and can affect your relationships and your overall quality of life.

Counselling can help you to develop a healthier and more honest relationship with yourself and your feelings, but this journey can also bring you in touch with difficult emotions. It can be scary to make the first step, but I will aim to create a trusting and safe environment for you from the moment we meet and throughout our counselling relationship;

'I came to counselling feeling very nervous at first. I almost didn't go because I was so anxious. I'm so glad I did. Sarah offered me a cup of tea and she was so friendly, warm and ... just human! It was such a relief. Through counselling I've explored many sad parts of my life and that's been tough, but Sarah always went at my pace and was unwavering in her support. I'm a much calmer, happier me now!' (Client, anon., age 34)

If you'd like to find out whether I could be the right counsellor for you, why not drop me an email, text, or give me a call? Before we decide to work together, we will meet for a 45 minute assessment session free of charge, so that we can get to know each other and discuss what you need from counselling. There's no obligation to continue with paid sessions after this meeting.

How I Work

As a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) (reg. 375993), I am committed to working professionally and ethically. As my client, your wellbeing and progress is my priority.

I highly value and respect every individual client. As your counsellor, I will work at your pace and will never rush you to talk about anything that you don't feel ready to explore. You are invited to take the lead in our sessions, which reflects the Person-Centred foundation to my warm counselling style.

Due to my training in integrative counselling, the approaches used are tailored to suit you. For some clients, long-term Humanistic therapy may be best. Others may need help with a short-term issue, where Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) may be an effective tool. Whatever approach is used, we will discuss this at each stage of our counselling relationship.

You may be struggling with issues that you want to focus on long-term, or you may have more short-term goals. Therefore, I offer open-ended counselling, which can last from a few weeks, months or even years. The duration is up to you as the client, and we discuss progress on a regular basis.

Training, qualifications & experience

My Qualifications & Experience

I hold a FdSc in Counselling with Distinction and am currently studying to become a Clinical Supervisor, meaning that will be fully qualified to support other counsellors in their work with clients.

I participate in regular supervision and continual professional development (CPD) to enhance my practice and knowledge.

I really enjoy my work and feel privileged to walk alongside my clients as they evolve and prosper.

I have a broad range of experience, from working with bereavement and loss, trauma, body-image related issues, to anxiety, anger management problems and illness.

I have experience in working with clients on an individual basis regarding relationship and family difficulties.

I also offer counselling and/or study support to trainee counsellors. I really enjoy helping students to navigate the emotional and academic journey towards becoming a qualified therapist.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
