About me

I am a trauma-informed & anti-pathologising Psychodynamic Psychotherapeutic counsellor. Trained in lite CBT, applied psychology as well as a polyvagal approach. I can assist you with unveiling any unconsciously held beliefs that may be negatively affecting you and your relationships, or identifying unhelpful thought processes to increase self-awareness and choice.  If you are suffering from anxiety I can offer tools to help you regulate a dysregulated nervous system.  I am able to offer both open-ended and time-limited therapy.

What to expect in your first session

Sessions can be face-to-face, online, or by telephone and begin with a half-hour online assessment. This is an opportunity for me to actively listen to you, to hear what is troubling you and has brought you for counselling. It gives me a chance to assess and explain how I may be able to help you and importantly, for you to see whether I am the right fit for you. The assessment is free and does not obligate you to proceed with me.

How counselling can help

We are all uniquely impacted by different experiences, relationships, and the context of our lives. Sometimes this impact can be negative or sadly deeply damaging. Talking to a trained professional outside of family and friends can help you gain a fresh perspective. I am here to help you. Together, we will explore how you have been impacted, and look at thoughts, feelings, or beliefs you may or may not be conscious of that could be preventing you from thriving in your life.

I will listen to your story without judgment, while we focus on what is important to you. My aim is to provide an environment where you feel accepted for who you are and supported throughout the counselling process. I can offer effective tools to help with managing stress/anxiety where appropriate. There are likely to be some challenging moments during the process, but also there can be moments where you make important connections or experience great relief from mental pain.

The types of mental health issues I work with include anxiety, depression, panic, self-harm, responses to trauma, stress, loneliness, grief, low self-esteem, life changes, identity issues, anger, feeling overwhelmed or stuck, family relationships, work issues, and loss of meaning and purpose in life. Most importantly, I am interested in what has happened to you and has brought you to counselling.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a PGDip (Merit) in Psychodynamic Psychotherapeutic Counselling, Registered Member of the BACP, and have been practicing for 6 years. I have experience working with a diverse range of clients and a wide variety of mental health issues.

In addition to my counselling qualification, I have a 2:1 BA (Hons) in Applied Psychology & Sociology.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
