About me

Taking the first step into counselling can be daunting. Finding help may have been on your mind for a while and sometimes it can help to talk to someone who isn’t a family member or a friend. You may be feeling anxious, struggling with a relationship or experiencing stress at home or work. I offer a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space where you can talk freely about how you are feeling, where those feelings are coming from and the issues you’d like to explore. I will support you to explore the challenges you face and the changes you wish to make in moving forward.

I'm an integrative counsellor which means I can draw on different approaches to suit each client. Primarily, I work in a person-centred way enabling you to choose what to focus on and at a pace that suits you. Sometimes, I might use a psychodynamic approach to help you discover experiences from your past that are impacting on you today.

You may be feeling apprehensive about contacting a counsellor which is why I offer a free telephone session so that I can get a sense of what you’d like to explore, and you can see if we can work together. Please feel welcome to email me to arrange a convenient time.

I am bound by the ethics of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) and am fully supervised and insured.

Training, qualifications & experience

  • I am a registered member of the BACP
  • Level 4 Post Graduate Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling
  • Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Studies
  • Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills
  • Certificate in Bereavement Counselling
  • Phase Orientated Trauma Model
  • Certificate in Online and Telephone Counselling

I have considerable experience working at a charity supporting survivors of rape and sexual abuse and can offer support and hope to those who have experienced trauma and cannot see a future.

I also work with individuals who have experienced loss whether that be the death of a partner, a friend or a family pet or the loss of a job or a relationship.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
