About me

Hello, I’m Robert. I’m a qualified person-centred counsellor based in the central belt of Scotland. Below is a little about me, my experience, my qualifications and what I can offer. If you have any questions, get in touch 😊

Life can be hard and unfair and sometimes you just need someone to listen to you without judgement. I can offer that space to you.

I found myself in a similar position years ago, struggling with feelings of burnout, abandonment, conditions of worth, worthlessness, body dysmorphia and identity/sexuality crisis. I struggled to articulate these feelings to anyone around me due to fear of judgement and people telling me I was "overreacting" or to "get over it" or "boys don't cry". I eventually reached out to a therapist who provided a space for me to name what I was feeling, gradually lessening the shame and empowering me to take control.

My therapist could not change my circumstances but he did make me feel heard and that I mattered.

I offer this same space to my clients. I offer empathy, acceptance and a real relationship, allowing space for all feelings including anger, sadness, happiness, humour, depression, shame, kindness and everything else in between to emerge. Together, we can work at a pace that feels safe for you to untangle and shed light on parts that want or need to be seen and be loved for who they are. I very much believe that people have the capacity to heal themselves if the correct conditions are met.

I have an MSc in Counselling and Psychotherapy as well as a BA(Hons) in Musical Theatre. I have also worked in the fitness industry for years and understand the pressures related to body image issues and complex relationships with food and exercise. I understand the performance industry at multiple levels, having worked in the industry upon graduating and having many acquaintances still training, working, or having left the industry. I also have an in-depth knowledge of Christianity and great empathy for religious trauma.

I work using the Person Centred modality, developed by Carl Rogers. I use informed theory and research as well as my own experience to walk alongside my clients as they explore new and often difficult territory to find the place of healing inside themselves.

Reaching out can be extremely hard and choosing the right therapist can feel overwhelming. If you feel like I could be someone you would like to work with, feel free to drop me a message either by email, phone or text and we'll go from there.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
