About me

Hello I am Rachel and I am an experienced counsellor qualified to work with both adults and young people.

At times you may often feel overwhelmed by events in your life and begin to struggle.  You may feel anxious, confused, depressed, isolated or unable to make an important life decision. There are times in life when we cannot make sense of our emotions or behaviours on our own and we need help. Life can feel difficult and painful at times and I know how frightening it can be when you feel stuck and are struggling for a way to move forward.  This is when counselling may help.

How Does Counselling Help?

By talking over your problems in a non judgemental space, you are more able to gain understanding and clarity over your thoughts, feelings and a sense of who you are. Being in a therapeutic relationship will allow you to process what is going on for you in your own time and at your own pace. It is here that you may be able to see the life patterns and relationships that have held you back from the person you want to be. I am here to listen to you and help you sort through your thoughts, feelings and behaviours and find a way forwards from what is troubling you. We may look at your coping strategies and work together on ways to get them to work for you. My aim is for us to work together, to get you to the life you deserve. I work with each person's own story and value their unique strengths in moving towards a more fulfilling life.

Initial Contact

I know that making the decision to come to counselling may feel daunting and you may be apprehensive. I am happy to have an initial telephone call where we can see if I am the right person to support you. We can then arrange a first session either via Zoom or face to face. In our first session we will explore further what is going on for you and also consider what you would like to gain from your counselling sessions. This gives you the space to reflect on where you see yourself and how we can work together to achieve this.

Having regular sessions each does help to develop our relationship and enhance your understanding of yourself but we can work to your own needs and autonomy. I understand that sometimes one or two sessions may be enough for you to see change and support you enough to navigate through what you are experiencing.

How Do I Work?

I am an experienced fully qualified integrative counsellor, trained to work with both adults and young people. Working in an integrative way means that I work in a way best suited to the needs of my client. I am an experienced person centred counsellor and I also work with other modalities such as cognitive therapy, solution focused counselling and creative therapy. I have experience of working with anxiety, depression, bereavement and loss, low self-esteem, trauma and many other issues.

Working with Teenagers.

When I work with with younger clients I focus on building the relationship with your child and maintaining a trusting relationship so they will feel safe to express themselves. I focus on helping your young person identify and explore their feelings and working on increasing their self awareness and resilience. I often work creatively with younger clients and bring in different tools to help them explore how they feel. Sometimes teenagers just need a space to be heard and listened to and the counselling relationship can offer this space. A young person can often benefit from a relationship where there are no expectations, criticisms or having to behave in a certain way. As a  therapist I offer acceptance of my client and work with them to explore their internal world.

I work with issues such as anxiety, anger, self-esteem, confidence ,bullying, self-harm, intrusive voices, peer to peer issues, gender identity, sexuality and suicidal ideation and other areas that your child may be struggling with. If you want more information about working with your child please contact me to see how I can help.

I believe we are all unique and with the right support we can all improve our lives and well-being.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
