About me

Sometimes it feels difficult to make sense of our lives and trying to cope with upsetting feelings on our own. It can be hard. This is when talking to a therapist can help make sense of it all.

What is counselling?

Counselling provides a safe and confidential space to talk about any personal challenges you may be facing. I work in a way that is supportive yet insightful, which can help you to find greater clarity and self-acceptance. Seeing problems in a different light can also help to discover strengths and inner resources which can be drawn upon to find a way forward. By working together, we can also discover ways of coping that feel more manageable.

What type of issues can counselling help with?

Feelings: stress, anxiety, depression, sadness, grief and loss, anger, fear, loneliness, low self-esteem.

Thinking: confusion, limiting beliefs, problems making decisions, repetitive negative thoughts, difficulty in finding meaning in life.

Behaviour: procrastination, actions that have unhelpful consequences, unhealthy patterns and habits.

How I work

I am an integrative counsellor, and work within a person-centred environment, drawing on different approaches, to look at personal problems and change, in a way that is respectful and empathetic yet empowering. I provide a safe, confidential space where a client is supported and accepted without being judged, in a way that values diversity and is culturally sensitive. My aim is to work in a way that best suits you. I have worked with people who have experienced bereavement, alcohol and substance misuse problems, domestic violence, loss of employment, relationship problems, depression, abuse, bullying and questions regarding sexuality and isolation.

What can I expect?

During the first session, we will be able to meet and talk about what you would like to gain from counselling. You will be able to ask questions and experience how counselling works. Normally counselling lasts for one hour per week, but it can be arranged less frequently if needed. It can be for a one-off session, or more frequently. It can continue for weeks or months, depending on what you feel you need.

I qualified as a counsellor in 2015 and hold a level 5 Diploma in Counselling. I also hold a level 3 in counselling skills.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
