About me

Hello my name is Pooni. I'm a qualified Integrative counsellor that helps to develop emotional grounding and balance. My philosophy of counselling embodies Humanistic, Existential and Psychodynamic approaches.

Sometimes it's difficult to talk openly. We may worry about burdening others with our problems and begin to suppress difficult emotions and experiences. This suppression can cause ruptures in the way we relate to ourselves and others.

A therapeutic space can provide you with a space to talk freely and without judgement. A space in which you can feel heard and understood. It can give you time to explore past and present experiences safely.

This process brings light to areas of darkness. Self-knowledge that was previously blurred on the edges of your awareness, can begin to sharpen and come into full view.  Areas of confusion are replaced with clarity.

This clarity can provide you with the self-knowledge to understand where changes need to be made and how to make them. This begins the process of change.

I offer a variety of Therapeutic interventions that can support your journey.  These interventions can provide you with the strategies and knowledge to grow your life.  This expansion can be empowering.

I will offer opportunities to re-write some of the stories that you have developed and carried through your life, that may have been hurting you or holding you back.

Creative exercises invite the exploration of your subconscious thoughts and feelings. This can provide you with new information about your past, and present experience that can inform future plans and give guidance.

Therapy can support you to navigate difficulties and find a safe path towards your future.

Taking the first steps towards counselling can be difficult. It's not easy to ask for help. I aim to try and support your journey with compassion and care.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a registered member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (Bacp).

I believe you are the expert of your life and my aim is to work with you in a collaborative way that enables and guides you to create a safe path towards your own solutions and a more hopeful future.

My practice offers a safe and confidential environment both online and face to face counselling that can support you to make sustainable changes in your life.  I use a range of interventions, that include CBT, Transactional Analysis, Gestalt Therapy, Narrative therapy, Attachment theory, Existential and creative therapies. I believe that often there isn't just one therapeutic approach that can help a client in all situations. Every client I see is different and therefore a combination of interventions are used to enable a holistic approach.

Some of the areas I work in are: Anxiety including Social anxiety,  Depression and low mood,  Cultural issues, Money issues, Marriage and Relationship issues, Menopause, PTSD, Abuse, Racism, Trauma, Grief, Family  and Health issues.

I have also completed further training in Safeguarding children, Managing disclosures safely and Domestic violence and Anxiety in Children and young people.

I provide weekly Face to Face  counselling in Bexleyheath, Exeter and Axminster and an Online service to Adults in the  UK.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
