About me

Hi, I’m Peter and I’m a MBACP registered counsellor. It is my belief that we all possess the ability to live our happiest and most fulfilling lives, and yet sometimes we can get stuck (in our own thinking), or obstacles (life events) present themselves making this seem difficult. Perhaps we have allowed ourselves to become defined by events from our past and continue to allow them to influence us in the present. Or maybe we find that we over invest in the unknowns of the future and find ourselves anxious of what is to come. Both of these scenarios steal us away from the present, which is the only place from where we can implement change, and it is this ‘change’ that we can uncover in our sessions.

I also believe that much of the distress that we encounter as human beings, stems from a struggle to live as our authentic selves. Within the safe container of the sessions, we create the space to re-connect with your ‘true’ self, explore what may lay beneath the ‘loss of self’ and work together to repair the rupture. Everyone is an individual and as such has a unique ‘experience’ of the world. I endeavour to understand what it is like to be you, whilst offering support in a non-judgemental environment, working collaboratively at a pace that supports your self-understanding and raises your self-awareness.

Before training as a counsellor, I worked as a sound engineer within the music, entertainment and events industry for over two decades, and am aware of the promises and pitfalls of this sector. This role found me working in high pressured environments where there was very little room for error, and as such I can relate to those who find themselves under the spotlight, with nowhere to hide. Working with actors, musicians, CEOs, politicians and even royalty I learned that as humans, we all harbour the same insecurities and vulnerabilities regardless of class or success. In many ways I have gone from making people louder to helping them find some quiet, whilst still being heard. I have helped musicians, artists, actors, writers, road crew and those in relationships with the afore-mentioned cope with anxiety, depression, addiction and low self-esteem in addition to offering support in other areas.

However, my experience as a counsellor is not solely connected to the performing arts or creative industries, and I have clients from all walks of life.

Training, qualifications & experience

I trained as a psychotherapeutic counsellor at the Gestalt Centre in London, the UK’s most prominent provider of Gestalt training, and have a Diploma in Gestalt Counselling and a Certificate in Humanistic Counselling. My approach is very much person-centred and I truly believe that at the heart of successful therapy lies the therapeutic relationship which can be both nurturing and at times challenging, but always with your best interests at heart. In addition to private practice, I volunteer weekly at a North London charity, which aims to make therapy accessible to all.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

If you find yourself curious, please contact me via email to arrange a 15 minute no-obligation Zoom or phone call, at no charge- this will not only give you an opportunity to ask any questions but also to explore if we are the right fit for each other. Should we decide to continue, our initial session will be a deeper exploration of what brought you to therapy and what your therapeutic goals may be and from there establish whether a set course of sessions or open-ended therapy may suit you better.

Sessions would be weekly, at a regular time and last 50 minutes.
