About me

My name is Peter Evans and I am an accredited member of the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC). I am also a registered member of the BACP and have additionally practised as a pharmacist for many years. My counselling practice is five minutes walk from Chingford Station. As I am spending some of my time in France this year I am providing remote counselling only via Zoom or via telephone. The continuity of the counselling in this way can be maintained. My fee is for remote counselling is £45.00 per fifty minute session.

I provide a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space where your thoughts and feelings can be explored, understood and where they can become a real source of support to you rather than being part of the problem in themselves.

I have worked with clients who have presented with a wide range of emotional difficulties that include: low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, anger issues, a deep sense of loneliness and eating disorders. Inner conflict can find expression in range of different ways.

Often the coping mechanisms that we adopted early in life can persist fundamentally unmodified into adult life. Instead of being supportive and helpful to us however, these active old coping mechanisms now become self-sabotaging relational stances. Identifying and understanding the origins and dynamics of how we relate to other people, to our own bodies and to the world that surrounds us is therefore of prime importance if we are to start living differently and authentically.

Exploring memories and experiences in therapy is like piecing together a jigsaw puzzle. By joining up the pieces, the different scenes and the different themes, a clear image gradually emerges. This coherent and meaningful image can act as a solid foundation for new ways of engaging, relating and living.

Please telephone or email me if you would like to ask any questions regarding therapy or to arrange an initial consultation. There is no charge for this initial introduction and it is an opportunity for us to meet and to take a preliminary look at the concerns or issues that you are currently facing.

Please telephone my mobile number 079 7209 8163 or email peter.evans93@btinternet.com with your enquiry.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BPC
British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC)

The British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) is a professional association, representing the profession of psychoanalytic psychotherapy.

The organisation is itself made up of fourteen member organisations and BPC accredits the trainings of its member organisations. An individual who qualifies from one of these trainings is then eligible for entry into the BPC's register.

BPC registrants are governed by a code of ethics, a policy of continuing professional development, a statement on confidentiality and a complaints procedure. The BPC is a Member Society of the European Federation for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy in the Public Sector (EFPP). Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

Our blind spots can cause us to repetitively interpret situations in counter-productive ways. They significantly affect how we relate to other people. Effectively they restrict our range of options in relationships and in this way often lead to a sense of being stuck.

Below is an analogy that illustrates how emotions such as anxiety, anger, despair and depression can come about when old templates or old points of reference are being used as a guide.

Imagine navigating around present day Britain using a 1950's or even a 1970's road map for reference. You are referring to an out of date map for guidance so consequently the reality of the present day road network will seem alarming and confusing to you. Some indicated routes will no longer exist. New unexpected routes will present! This disorientating and alarming experience could undoubtedly activate a wide range of distressing emotions. The following are some of the emotions that I think could be experienced: confusion, panic, fear, insecurity, anger and frustration.

It is important to know when to set aside our old out of date references in order to become free to engage authentically and constructively in the present.
