About me
If we uncover the basic assumption by which you live and operate, at the same time we can take a look at the best before date of this assumption.
Hi
I am a supportive, empathetic and experienced psychodynamic counsellor and I am a registered member of the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC). I have also practised as a community pharmacist for over 30 years.
I provide psychodynamic counselling online using Zoom, Microsoft Teams, WhatsApp and telephone and I offer a safe, confidential, non-judgemental space where your feelings and thoughts can be brought.
I work with people who seek counselling for many reasons but most frequently in relation to:-
low self-esteem and lack of self-belief
anger and depression
anxiety and relationship difficulties
addiction
During the first counselling session I like to hear about the problems that you are currently facing and about some your memories (early and more recent). We can all hold on for far too long to feelings of fear, doubt, disappointment, anger and shame (consciously and unconsciously) in relation to past experiences of hurt and loss. These feelings when they are too much to cope with can weigh us down in much the same way that food sitting undigested on the stomach does. Understanding our thoughts and feelings and contextualising experience can free us from this burden.
Identifying your blind-spots in therapy and increasing your self-knowledge and self-awareness gives you access to an expanded range of options with regards to how you relate and operate in the world. I call this choice realisation. This expanded range of relational options is what helps you to make meaningful and lasting changes in your life. This is the work of therapy, to find a new way to be and live without ever losing your essential self or who you are at heart.
Your past does not define you!!
We all experience difficulties in our life at some point and reaching out is usually the first step towards finding an answer and resolving a problem.

Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) is a professional association, representing the profession of psychoanalytic psychotherapy.
The organisation is itself made up of fourteen member organisations and BPC accredits the trainings of its member organisations. An individual who qualifies from one of these trainings is then eligible for entry into the BPC's register.
BPC registrants are governed by a code of ethics, a policy of continuing professional development, a statement on confidentiality and a complaints procedure. The BPC is a Member Society of the European Federation for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy in the Public Sector (EFPP). Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information
Our blind spots can cause us to repetitively interpret situations in a biased way. They significantly affect how we relate to other people. Effectively they restrict our range of options in relationships and in this way often lead to a sense of being stuck.
Below is an analogy that illustrates how emotions such as anxiety, anger, despair and depression can come about when old templates or old points of reference are being used as a guide.
Imagine navigating around Britain today using a 1950's or even a 1970's road map for reference. You are referring to an out of date map for guidance so consequently the presenting reality of the road network will seem alarming and confusing to you. Some routes indicated on your map will no longer exist. Unexpected routes will present! This disorientating and alarming experience could undoubtedly activate a wide range of distressing emotions. The following are some of the emotions that I think could be experienced: confusion, panic, fear, insecurity, anger and frustration.
It is important to know when to set aside our old out of date references in order to become free to engage authentically and constructively in the present.
Counselling changes lives!
