About me

As well as working with people that have experienced trauma in their lives I also work with clients that just feel that life at present is so challenging and negative and full of distressing news about general matters such as the financial situation, a polarised society it feels we live and general feeling of sadness.  I can support clients through these feelings and emotions and hopefully be able to support them in starting to feel a more positive view of life in general.   I also work with clients that have suffered loss of any kind and hopefully support them in reflecting on their memories and looking to the future with positivity.  I also work with clients that have experienced domestic abuse or who are at present in that environment.  My experience of pre-trial therapy is also invaluable to clients who may be going through or are likely to go through this traumatic experience.

Sometimes just a single visit with a counsellor is all that is required to talk over issues and get a new prospective on things, Single Session Therapy (SST) is a great way to reflect on something with the help of a counsellor that is non-judgemental and allows a space for a safe exploration .  I offer this facility from my therapy centre.

I work from a wonderful clinic in Milborne Port, Somerset and also online.  I work also on a walk and talk basis and online if necessary. I do have designated hours but also am flexible for the client's needs.

I am a member of the BACP and an Accredited member of the National Counselling Service.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a qualified and insured Humanistic Counsellor with qualifications with the CPCAB.  I have a BSc. Hons Degree in Psychology.  I have extensive training and experience in trauma related issues including sexual assault both recently and earlier in their lives.  I am also experienced in supporting clients in Domestic Abuse situations and those that may need pre-trial therapy.

I am experienced in using Flash (Blink) model to allow clients control of their intrusive memories and thoughts.  This is based on the same theoretical model as EMDR.

I also support clients that have had bereavement.  I am an accredited member of the National Counselling Society and a registered member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists.  I regular attend courses and conferences to ensure my clients obtain the best support they deserve and my knowledge and expertise is kept up to date.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

I work with always in mind the client is the expert of themselves.  However sometimes one needs guidance in finding a way through life's challenges to find the right path.  I see this is a joint journey with no judgement on what the client wishes to bring to the room and I encourage full autonomy for the client's decisions.  I am a trained trauma counsellor and am experienced also in how trauma can affect the physical body as well as emotional.  Working with the client to start to observe how trauma can effect our emotional and physical selves is really important.  It allows them to start to feel more empowered over their lives.    This also applies for loss and bereavement so exploring the relationship (s) that have been taken away and finding a positive way forward is so important.

I offer ongoing sessions or just a single session to explore what is happening for my clients.
