About me

Thanks for visiting my page.  My website has some further information about me both personally and professionally, including the services I offer.

I hope you find the right support that you may need at this time of looking, either here, or elsewhere.

I have extensive experience spread over a number of decades of working with both adults and children who present with a range of mental health, emotional and/or behavioural difficulties, within The NHS, Statutory Social Care settings and Private Practice.

I currently provide individuals, couples, and whole families, including children, a safe space to reflect on the challenges that may have emerged in their lives.  Prioritising providing a space to process and attend to difficulties that you may have faced, either just for yourself, and/or within your relationships.

Systemic Psychotherapy promotes a world view that we are not in isolation and to understand one person, we must consider people within their broader context.

I offer a free; no obligation, initial 30 minute enquiry session.  Either virtually or on the phone,  to establish whether I may be able to help.  I see this as a collaborative discussion to also establish whether we could work together and whether you feel I could be helpful.  (If I feel signposting is indicated, I will discuss this with you)

I use rooms at The Practice Rooms in Queens Square, and Barton Hill Wellbeing Centre, which all have easy access and a free public car park nearby.  I also have access to other city centre locations, and also can provide virtual therapy with online sessions.

I hold the belief that the answers we are searching for are held within us, all within our own reach, and I provide assistance to guide families to be able to manage their our personal difficulties.

What to expect from your first session.
If you choose for us to work together, firstly, I recommend we initially have a 3-5 set number of sessions to build a shared picture of an understanding of the difficulties that you and your family may be facing.  For some people this understanding itself becomes a helpful platform to move forward in life. For others this sets the focus for our work.

I provide both short term and longer term therapy.

I am interested in Narrative Therapy, and use a good amount of these resources and techniques in my therapy work. Exploring the stories we connected to, and reflecting on the untold stories can be a profound experience for many clients.

I hope this has given you a flavour of me and my orientation to my work.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a Registered Senior Systemic Family and Couple Psychotherapist, registered with AFT, U.K.C.P.

I am also currently registered with the N.M.C, as a Registered Mental Health Nurse, RMN, since 2008.

Furthermore, I am qualified to Level 2 in Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy, and I am a registered AIM 3 assessor for adolescent harmful sexual behaviour. This permits me to state I am DDP informed in my work and undertake Aim 3 and Aim under 12's assessments..

I am also  'Ambit' trained by the Anna Fraud centre in London, which is a helpful model to aid in terms of understanding 'mentalising', which is being the very sense of holding others peoples minds in our minds.

I continue to work part time with adults in NHS Secondary mental health services, so with those who have a serious mental illness, and their families. Also, at the time of writing, I am working within a specialist CAMHS team, Thinking Allowed, who provide therapeutic support children who live away from their birth family.  Having just spent 4 years in a specialist CAMHS team Be Safe a team for children who present with harmful sexual behaviour.

Further information

I work to some simple principles in life.  3 in fact.

1) Be on time.
2) Do what you say you will do.
3) Don't promise something you are unable to do.

I also believe that it is important to not seem an expert in someone's else's life, although balance this with respectful amount of guidance and feedback.

I offer Systemic Clinical Supervision to individuals, teams or groups.

Sessions can be arranged either virtually, or face to face, and can be arranged at your convenience.

Hear me speaking on a recent Radio 4 production, File on 4 Programme. Re my work with families where there has been reported sibling sexual abuse.

Wheelchair user access
Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.

I use local rooms to meet with clients in our local community across Bristol. Mainly 'The Practice Rooms', and The Wellspings Settlement, BS5 0AX. It can be found here: https://wellspringsettlement.org.uk/.
