About me

Modern-day living presents us all with a unique set of challenges. Never have our lives been so busy, rapidly changing and uncertain. While our mental health and well-being ought to take priority, they can often fall by the way-side as we attempt to navigate life's turbulent journey. Several problems and personal issues present themselves to us along the way, and sometimes the answer does not appear to present itself, no matter how hard we try. I know from first-hand experience that more often than not, these answers can and do lie within us. Finding a professional we can trust, in a safe environment and free from judgement, can empower us to find the solutions we crave for life's challenges. With a career spanning twenty years in the fire service and subsequently having employed sixty staff in my business, my life has always centred around caring and supporting people. I am naturally empathetic in nature and in therapy. I focus on fostering a genuine therapeutic relationship with my clients from the outset.

I have been married for over thirty years and have two grown-up children, also working as dedicated public servants in the NHS and civil service. My personal journey through therapy has profoundly changed my life for the better, and has ultimately inspired me to help others too. I have developed a tailored approach to my profession, from which I offer a confidential and caring service for all. A consultation is entirely free. Reach out and we'll discuss which options are right for you.

Training, qualifications & experience

20 years as an operational firefighter has taught me a great deal about myself and how I interact with others, I found that I naturally gravitate towards a person who may be suffering. I have navigated through my own personal struggles through recent years and found it valuable to have received dedicated and tailored therapy from a professional counsellor.

I have been working within the education sector for the previous three years providing a counselling service to students and staff alike.

I am a member of The British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

My practice ethos is based upon the recognised ethical framework formulated by the British Association of counsellors and psychotherapists (BACP) of which i am a member. I also consult a BACP clinical supervisor regularly to enhance my clinical practice.

I work with the concept that the client comes first. My focus is to provide a safe place for the client to explore their feelings without the threat of judgement. I am an integrative therapist and coordinate different models of therapy to suit client needs. This enables me to work across a wide field of client issues, ranging from historical abuse to recent trauma such as relationship breakdown or bereavement. My practice operates from three locations to offer flexibility to client's;

Skipton.

Silsden, Aire Valley.

Settle, Yorkshire Dales.

If you prefer to sit face-to-face in an intimate setting, or in stead opt for a walk and talk session in the countryside, I offer both in the consultation. I also offer internet consultation.
