About me

I am an integrative therapist working with clients aged 18+.  I can offer in-person or online appointments and operate a flexible booking system, allowing clients to schedule therapy around other commitments.

How I Work

As an integrative therapist I believe there is no one size fits all approach to therapy.  I am committed to offering a safe space where you can explore the topics you bring to therapy in a way that works for you and aim to build an authentic relationship with each client based on trust, empathy and compassion.

I believe in allowing the client to set the pace and direction of our work, meaning that from the outset you are in control of what you choose to talk about and how much you choose to share.  My approach is relaxed and clients often remark that they are surprised by how much therapy just feels like a 'normal conversation'.

Throughout our work together I can offer tools from various modalities such as person-centred, CBT, psychodynamic therapy, mindfulness and more to suit your unique needs and preferences.  Together we will build a tailored package of support that is right for you.  I encourage all clients to be aware of their needs in the therapy space and to let me know if there are new ways of working that they would like to explore.

*To get a further sense of how I work, check out the client testimonials at the bottom of the page.

Brainspotting Therapy

In addition to integrative talk therapy I also offer Brainspotting Therapy.  Brainspotting is a powerful mind-body therapy that works by identifying, processing and repairing sources of emotional stress, trauma, dissociation and other challenging symptoms.  A non-invasive approach, brainspotting utilises specific points in your visual field to access deeply held experiences, which are then safely processed and desensitised.  This results in a re-balancing in the nervous system and reduction or resolution of associated symptoms.

Brainspotting combines focused mindfulness, relational attunement and brain-based processing.  A huge plus for many clients is that brainspotting can be an effective form of treatment without the client having to discuss vast details of past trauma.  It can be utilised as a stand-alone therapy or alongside integrative talk therapy sessions with equal effectiveness and can be offered in-person or online.

Brainspotting can be used to work on almost any issue but can be particularly effective for individuals experiencing symptoms of PTSD, complex trauma, anxiety, phobias, stress, performance issues or low self-esteem.

Training, qualifications & experience

Qualifications

  • DipHe Counselling & Psychotherapy
  • PGDip Childhood Practice
  • Advanced Certificate in Clinical Supervision

In addition to formal qualifications I am committed to ongoing professional development and continue to undertake regular additional training to support me in providing clients with the best possible therapy experience.

Experience

I have a strong foundation of experience supporting individuals who come to therapy with a wide range of issues including anxiety, stress, fertilty issues, relationship difficulties, bereavement, difficult life changes and more.

Trauma Work

I specialise in supporting individuals who have been affected by trauma and have particular experience supporting those affected by sexual abuse and/or rape.  I understand that everyone experiences trauma differently and work to support individuals to explore the ways their trauma has impacted them, the ways they have coped and the aspects of trauma which continue to cause them distress.

Brainspotting can be a particularly effective treatment for trauma related symptoms such as disrupted sleep, tension, aches and pains, intrusive images, emotional dysregulation, anxiety and more.  Brainspotting supports the mind's capacity for natural self-healing, often deepening a clients awareness and offering new insight into experiences and how these have impacted them.

Emergency Services & Military Personnel

I have experience working with those in uniformed services such as paramedics, firefighters, police and medical staff.  The impact of such stressful professions and the traumatic events faced in such roles cannot be understated.  I aim to offer a safe, confidential space to explore work-related concerns and the impact they are having upon an individual.  I also have experience supporting military personnel, both those currently serving and veterans.  Through this work I have some insight into the challenges faced in and after service and I have supported individuals in addressing the impact of traumatic experiences and the difficulties faced reaclimatising to civilian life.

Supervision

Whether you meet with your clients online or in-person, a safe space where you can reflect on your work with clients is crucial to developing your learning and maintaining professional standards of practice.  As a cinical supervisor, I offer online supervision to qualified and student therapists or others working in the helping professions.  For more information please see my supervision profile linked to the right of this page.

Athletes & Public Figures

As a former performance athlete I have an understanding of the unique vulnerabilities and pressures of high performance pathways and other similar environments.  I have worked alongside current and former athletes, competing at all levels, across a range of sports and I support athlete wellbeing programmes through a number of sports governing bodies.  Many athletes have benefitted from the use of brainspotting as a tool to support performance and training goals, whilst others have found benefit in integrative talk therapy as a means of processing sporting setbacks, preparing for transitions or retirement and supporting overall wellbeing.

I have also worked alongside a number of public figures and have some insight into the specific pressures of public life.  Whilst confidentiality is essential for all individuals accessing therapy, I understand that there may be specific concerns for those under the media glare and I have experience working with specific privacy requirements and non-disclosure agreements.

Client Feedback

"When I drove to our first session I was a nervous wreck but within minutes of being in the room Pamela helped me to feel at ease.  She knows exactly the right question to ask at exactly the right time and I never felt pressured during our sessions.  Together we have worked through my past traumas and I am in a good place now, focussing on enjoying life, but if the darkness creeps back in I will definitely reach out to Pamela again." - Female Client, 29 (Childhood Trauma)

"By the time I tried therapy, I'd tried everything from self help books to self medicating.  I was skepitcal that therapy could help and expected to be judged for my past actions but Pamela wasn't judgemental at all.  Talking to her was just like a normal conversation and not at all like what I'd expected therapy would be.  Her compassionate approach helped me to deal with the mountain of shame I'd been carrying for years during and after my (military) service.  I can't thank her enough for her kindness, patience and willingness to embrace my dark sense of humour as I waded through my 'stuff'." - Male Client, 48 (C-PTSD, Military Service)

"Therapy with Pamela has helped me to find a state of calm within myself for the first time in a very long time.  She has helped me to understand how the positive and negative experiences in my life have shaped who I am today.  I am becoming more confident in my own skin, happier and more positive about my future." - Female Client, 22 (Anxiety, Sexual Assault)

"Pamela listened and I could feel she actually cared.  I was a 'slow burner' but she hung in there and gave me the time and space I needed, without judgement.  For the first time in my life I felt safe and eventually I told her everything.  It took a while, but she patiently helped me pull myself out of a really dark place and I have become proud of the man I am today.  I will always be grateful for that." - Male Client, 56 (Childhood Trauma, Sexuality)
