About me

I am an experienced integrative psychotherapist specialising in the area of eating disorders and have extensive experience helping people recover from anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, orthorexia and eating problems that do not fit into a "category". I also work with people struggling with a wide range of other problems too including anxiety; depression and mood disorders; OCD; ADHD; bereavement; relationship problems and co-dependency to name but a few.

I offer a safe, welcoming space for you to explore whatever is troubling you. My approach is relational and collaborative, tailoring therapy to your specific needs. I believe that you are the expert on you, and the therapeutic space can help you to access your inner wisdom and better understand the maintaining factors of your problem. I can help you with alternative tools and strategies to manage your distress and support you through your healing process.

My approach is holistic, taking into consideration the emotional, mental, physical, spiritual, social and cultural aspects of each person. I encourage curiosity and exploration of meaning attributed to thoughts, feelings and experience and how this influences your relationship with yourself, others and the world around you. Through gaining insight and self-awareness in the "here and now" of the therapeutic relationship, you are able to experiment with different ways of relating, enabling you to make informed choices rather than reactive responses and to transfer the insight gained in therapy to your life and relationships.

My therapeutic approach is informed by psychodynamic, attachment and family systems theories. I utilise cognitive behavioural aspects and DBT (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy) skills, with emphasis on mindfulness, acceptance and compassion. I offer evidence based treatment and abide by the codes of conduct and ethics of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

Training, qualifications & experience

Graduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy, Jansen Newman Institute, Sydney, Australia, 2010.

Diploma in Practitioner Skills for Eating Disorders, National Centre for Eating Disorders, 2013. (BPS approved training)

Background and Experience:

I have been working since 2010 as an individual and group psychotherapist in both inpatient and outpatient settings. After qualifying as a psychotherapist in 2010, I worked at South Pacific Private psychiatric hospital in Sydney as part of a multi-disciplinary team, where I gained experience working with addiction, eating disorders, anxiety, depression and mood disorders, personality disorders, co-dependency issues and dual diagnosis. My experience there included facilitating interpersonal group psychotherapy and psycho-educational groups; managing and facilitation of the family program; co-facilitation of the Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) program. After returning to the UK in 2013, I worked as the lead eating disorders therapist at LifeWorks, a private treatment centre in Surrey. I was responsible for developing the eating disorders program and providing training to colleagues. Since 2016, I have worked at the Nightingale Hospital in London, facilitating inpatient groups for the eating disorder department and seeing outpatients for individual psychotherapy. I have also had my own private practice since 2016.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
