About me
Therapy will change you. I believe in the power of counselling to enhance life on many levels. Therapy can be a deeply transformative process, as you are able to talk openly to someone knowing you will be fully accepted, regardless of what it is you have to say.
I have a lot of experience specifically working with people who are struggling with relationships. So if you feel you are unhappy with the intensity, quality or quantity of friendships, if you feel your intimate (sexual or asexual) relationships are unsatisfactory, and/or if you don't have the relationships with your parents / family that you want, then let's have an initial conversation to see how I can help.
Perhaps you are struggling with anxiety, depression, loneliness, identity, work-related stress, sex or sexuality, self-esteem - I have experience in all these areas, plus lots more... Or maybe you don't know what is wrong, but you just get a sense that 'something' isn't right. That's ok too.
For all my clients, however they find counselling: terrifying, challenging or a blessed relief, I have a deep respect. The therapeutic work my clients undertake, and the courage they show in their willingness to explore difficult and painful experiences or emotions is both humbling and inspiring.
I also share my clients' relief and joy when they begin to feel they are coming through the darkness; when they feel they are beginning to find a new but very real peace from what had previously troubled them.
I welcome people who have or want to explore diverse relationship structures and identities, for example, people who might identify as consensually non-monogamous or polyamorous, and LGBTQIA+, trans or non-binary folks who may (or may not!) want to explore those identities…
We all face difficulties - life is challenging! And we can all benefit from having someone who is wholly on our side to help us to deal with those difficulties.
When we realise that we are ready to tackle whatever it is that is upsetting us, or to face the thoughts or feelings that are holding us back, then talking to a good counsellor is very likely to help us move on and feel different.
You can see from my profile that I am 'accredited'; this means that I have undergone and passed an extra layer of rigorous assessment by the BACP. The accreditation process scrutinises many areas of a therapist's practice, including skills, theoretical knowledge and understanding, assimilation of relevant CPD, self-awareness and how the therapist's practice is viewed by their supervisor.
You will find more information about me on my website, or you can always get in touch.
I have a large, comfortable consulting room in central Manchester.
Fortnightly appointments welcome.
Training, qualifications & experience
My primary training is in the Person-centred approach, and I hold a PGDip/MSc in Counselling & Psychotherapy from University of Salford.
I trained with the Grove for a L5 certificate in Psychosexual Therapy.
I am an accredited member of the BACP and I am a member of the DBS update service.
Member organisations
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
