M
y Approach

In my practice, I take an active approach to helping clients move forward and deal with whatever is affecting them.  This not only involves helping clients to understand more about what is happening but also involves ways of learning to manage feelings and emotions.

This is a significant aspect of therapy as it enables you to acquire the skills to help yourself outside of the therapy when the need arises, and, consequently can be applied throughout your life. I help each client build a personal toolbox of skills and strategies that they can use to help them feel more connected and actively engaged in resolving their issues.

The therapy I offer is specifically tailored to each client individually.  Having a broad range of experience and training in a number of types of therapy means I can combine approaches and offer the most effective treatment plan which in turn offers the greatest possibility for a positive outcome.

I believe that psychological well-being is important for people in order that they can lead full, satisfying and creative lives, and my aim is to help each individual reach a healthy outcome.   I achieve this through integrating practical and theoretical approaches. In this way, I support clients in developing clarity and insight into their problems, whilst also benefiting from a range of strategies and skills to deal more effectively with the psychological challenges they are facing.

The values of my practice are founded on the principles of respect, inclusiveness and providing a choice of appropriate treatment options for clients.

Therapy is essentially an investment in yourself and the quality of your life.

Specialisms

As a senior practitioner my training is extensive and alongside the general counselling and psychotherapy, I am also able to offer a number of specialisms.

These include:

EMDR - for trauma

CBT - Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

Relationship and Couples Therapy

Sleep and Insomnia Therapy

Mindfulness for stress and anxiety

EFT

Therapy can offer:

  • Clarity, insight and understanding.
  • Relief from distress and anxiety.
  • Strategies to cope with life's challenges.
  • Increased personal success and contentment.

Following a personal consultation, the therapy is individually tailored to meet the circumstance and needs of each client.

Making An Appointment:

Although it can feel hard to take the first step, therapy can offer the chance to overcome difficulties and to lead a more satisfying and fulfilling life.  If you don't have a previous experience of therapy then the prospect of talking about yourself can initially seem difficult or quite daunting.

I, therefore, like to offer an initial one-off consultation where we can explore the reasons that bring you to therapy and what you would like to get out of it. You can also learn more about the process, and how I work.

If you would like to discuss your requirements, please phone me for an initial free phone consultation at the practice on  07415 321 583

You can also email the practice at info@thetherapypractice.co.uk.

The Practitioner:

"Helping you make sense of the way you feel "

In my work, I aim to help clients to start to make sense of what is happening in their life, and to bring some clarity to how they feel about it.   A helpful and effective therapy is essentially a joint endeavour between client and therapist, to understand why, and in what way, you are affected by particular life experiences.  Therapy is a very personal experience, and finding a therapist who you feel you can communicate effectively with is an essential ingredient.

In my practice, I endeavour to provide a thoughtful and supportive environment for my clients and am committed to working with each individual to achieve a successful outcome.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

How therapy can help you:

"A better understanding and awareness of yourself can help you to make active choices about how you want to live your life."

As a therapist I work with the understanding that psychological health and well being is at the centre of our ability to lead a full and satisfying life.  The thoughts and feelings we have about ourselves, and others, can play a major role helping to determine how we go through life and, can be a significant contributor to the way we perceive many of our experiences, both past and present.

The value and worth that we feel, will help to determine many relationships, both professional and personal, and can have a lasting effect on our ability to feel content.   Therapy offers a way of helping to sort through these complex ideas about who we are and how we truly want to be.  It can help shape a future based on an awareness of ourselves that feels healthy, congruent and conscious about the choices we make.

As a fully qualified and trained practitioner I am able to offer a specialist approach by combining appropriate psychological, emotional and physiological elements into your suggested treatment plan. In this way, the therapy provides the opportunity to more fully understand thoughts feelings and behaviour. In doing so you have the chance to evaluate your experiences, open up your thoughts or perceptions and adapt or change what no longer feels helpful, or, affects you in a negative way.
