About me
My work is underpinned by the belief that every person is unique and is the expert on their life. Although I have undertaken many different forms of trainings, I believe that each person’s experience of life and the stories they tell of it in terms of their relationships and beliefs about the world, are unique. This means that I will use the methodologies, theories and practices that best suit the needs and preferences of the person seeking my help. If, as we work together, we discover that an approach or skill is needed that I cannot offer, I will help and support my client in finding a practitioner who may be able to help.
In the client/counsellor relationship, I feel that the client is the expert on their own life. They know when something is amiss in their life, and they know when they have successfully dealt with it. This process takes place within the safe, professional therapeutic environment which I provide, and using a relational and collaborative approach, I encourage my clients to talk about their life, and the effects that they feel the issues they are currently experiencing, are having on their it. When my clients know what they want from their counselling sessions, we can contract to work together, and begin the shared journey as we enter the therapeutic process which leads to their desired outcomes.
To arrange an appointment, please telephone, e-mail or text me, so we can arrange a time to meet.
Training, qualifications & experience
Bristol University: MSc. Counselling – Training and Supervision
Reading University; Dip. Counselling and Guidance
Birmingham University: Cert.Ed.
In the 40 years that I have been a counsellor, I have explored many different humanistic models of therapy, and some of which, were cognitive and behavioural, finding some aspects of the latter to be very useful. However, my person centred philosophy relating to individuals has prevailed, and I am always mindful of ensuring that the core conditions are present throughout my counselling sessions. My theoretical model for 1:1 therapy, therefore, is Humanistic and Integrative, with my core philosophy being person centred.
