About me

My name is Dr. Mason Neely and I am a psychotherapist who works with individuals and couples. I'm a caring, compassionate and curious Accredited Member of the BACP that strives understand who you are, who you've been and the changes you'd like to make. I work to help you unpick the difficulties and anxieties you might be facing, whether they are in your relationships, your job, your self image or your past. Together, we can collaborate to discover new perspectives and skills to help you manage the unique circumstances of your life.

The way I work

My approach is best described as 'relational', meaning that it combines aspects from Existential, Psychodynamic, and Person-Centred perspectives. Put simply, these concepts afford the flexibility to focus on who you are, who you have been and the changes you desire for your life and your relationships.

I'm aware from my own experiences as a client how difficult it can be to take the first step into counselling. While I hope to bring a level of experience and theoretical understanding to my work, I am not the expert of your life - you are. Sometimes achieving a sense of balance in our everyday lives is difficult because of past experiences. My efforts are simply to help create a friendly, creative and confidential space where you can begin to feel at ease with your past, clear about your present and in control of your future. Your feelings are real, your needs are important and the change you desire is possible.

My counselling practice is collaborative, secure and creative. I invite you to discuss with me your goals for the therapy. Or to put it another way, how you would like to be when the therapy successfully ends? Going further...'Who' would you like to be? Perhaps you are not quite sure what that may look like yet and would like to talk it through with me.

No matter how large the problem might seem or how stuck you might feel, I encourage you to give me a call and begin to see for yourself if we might work well together

I can offer face-to-face sessions based in The Mumbles, telephone sessions or online sessions using secure email and video conference software.

I'm an Accredited BACP Counsellor that is committed to the ethical framework of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP)

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

Prior to my career in counsellor, I worked in music as an orchestral arranger, record producer, musical director and composer for film and TV. As much as I loved it, I knew I wanted something more. What resulted was a time of soul searching that lead me into my training and subsequent career as a therapist.

Wherever you are in your own personal journey, I wish you all the best in finding what you are looking for. I know full well that engaging in the work of counselling takes immense courage.

Be patient, be brave and be open to the possibilities that can arise from that process.
