I'm a caring, compassionate and curious Accredited Member of the BACP that strives understand who you are, who you've been and the changes you'd like to make. I work to help you unpick the difficulties and anxieties you might be facing, whether they are in your relationships, your job, your self image or your past. Together, we can collaborate to discover new perspectives and skills to help you manage the unique circumstances of your life.
The way I work
My approach is best described as 'relational integrative', meaning that it combines aspects from a wide variety of counselling perspectives, including Psychodynamic, Interpersonal, Person Centred and Existential. Put simply, these concepts afford the flexibility to focus on who you are, who you have been and the changes you desire for your life and your relationships.
I'm aware from my own experiences as a client how difficult it can be to take the first step into counselling. While I hope to bring a level of experience and theoretical understanding to my work, I am not the expert of your life - you are. Sometimes achieving a sense of balance in our everyday lives is difficult because of past experiences. My efforts are simply to help create a friendly, creative and confidential space where you can begin to feel at ease with your past, clear about your present and in control of your future. Your feelings are real, your needs are important and the change you desire is possible.
My counselling practice is collaborative, secure and creative. I invite you to discuss with me your goals for the therapy. Or to put it another way, how you would like to be when the therapy successfully ends? Perhaps you are not quite sure what that may look like yet and would like to talk it through with me .
No matter how large the problem might seem or how stuck you might feel, I encourage you to give me a call and begin to see for yourself if we might work well together
I can offer face to face sessions based in The Mumbles, telephone sessions or online sessions using secure email and video conference software.
Training, qualifications & experience
I hold a Masters Degree and a Distinction in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy from the University of South Wales and a Master of Science and Distinction in Social Science Research Methods from Cardiff University, where I am currently a Doctoral Student.
I have significant experience in the charitable, primary care and educational sectors and have worked with adults of all ages.
My varied experience has given me access to a broad spectrum of clients. I have worked with adolescents, students, academics, professionals and the unemployed. I strive to meet each client in their world.
In addition to running my own private practice, I am a lecturer and module leader at the University of South Wales.
I'm an Accredited BACP Counsellor that is committed to the ethical framework of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP)
Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

Accredited Register Scheme
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
Areas of counselling I deal with
Other areas of counselling I deal with
I treat each new client as a chance to create a 'new' type of therapy. As your life, relationships and personal difficulty are completely unique - so to is our work together. I strive to create a collaborative environment where your needs guide our efforts, not some pre-determined theory or technical mumbo jumbo.
6-8pm Monday to Friday
Prior to my career in counsellor, I worked in music as an orchestral arranger, record producer, musical director and composer for film and TV. As much as I loved it, I knew I wanted something more. What resulted was a time of soul searching that lead me into my training and subsequent career as a therapist.
Wherever you are in your own personal journey, I wish you all the best in finding what you are looking for. I know full well that engaging in the work of counselling takes immense courage.
Be patient, be brave and be open to the possibilities that can arise from that process.
