About me

Counselling

Really looking at your life and the situation you are in, takes courage. Perhaps life feels almost unbearable right now and you are at a loss as to how to move forward. Coming to counselling can be a big step, but I am here to accompany you, to offer you my wholehearted support in finding a way through what is difficult in your life at the moment.

Therapy can help you to transform your suffering into an opportunity for personal growth and life expansion. Having someone who meets you exactly where you are in this moment, listens deeply to you and doesn't judge but accepts you unconditionally, can help you gain clarity and a new perspective on your situation. Through the therapeutic process you will find a new level of understanding and compassion for yourself and the factors that are at play in your life. Having said that, counselling can be very challenging at times, but together we can find a way to make changes that will lead you toward a meaningful and fulfilling life.

How I work

I draw from a variety of different modalities to form an integrated approach that can be adapted to your needs and preference. So that might involve an in-depth exploration of your past, or something that is more action oriented and behavioural. Or perhaps both at different points in the counselling process. I work in a way that incorporates a lot of mindful awareness and involves your whole being, your thinking mind as well as your embodied experience.

My aim is to work collaboratively with you to help you (re)discover your own inner compass. Therapy can be short term or longer term. Most importantly however I aim to offer you unconditional support and give you permission to be fully yourself, in all your breadth and depth.

Issues I work with include: depression, anxiety, panic attacks, bereavement, relationship issues, trauma, addiction and anything else that you may be struggling with.

Please feel free to email me with any questions you may have or give me a call for an informal chat where we can look at how counselling might work for you.

Training, qualifications & experience

-A Postgraduate diploma in Psychotherapy and a diploma in Other Centred counselling and Buddhist psychology from the Tariki Institute., as well as a certificate in Counselling Psychology (Dublin City College).

Other therapeutic trainings I have completed include:

Sensorimotor psychotherapy for trauma (level 1)

Mindfulness approaches and ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy). Working with sexual trauma and rape.

Other elements of my background that influence the way I work:

I hold a Masters degree in Cultural Anthropology and Sociology as well as a certificate in philosophy and religious studies.

I have a longstanding and ongoing yoga and meditation practice- so working with mindfulness, breathing techniques and body awareness are an important element of my work.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
