About me

Seeking support can be a daunting process, but if you are struggling to manage difficult emotions, stress/traumatic life experiences or you wish to improve your relationships, then talking therapy may provide a safe space to gain insight into the causes of your distress and improve self-awareness. Psychotherapists also aim to provide you with the tools to address your difficulties and optimise your overall well-being.

As an integrative psychotherapist, I use a range of use psychological theories and therapies which means we would work collaboratively to personally tailor interventions to best suit your needs.

My training and practice are underpinned by trauma-informed principles meaning I seek to help both you and myself understand how your life experiences may have impacted you as opposed to treating a range of 'symptoms'. This means that I view all behaviour as having a purpose, often associated with protecting ourselves rather than something that is wrong with us.

I work to help individuals understand how they may have responded to trauma both emotionally and physically and offer a holistic approach to all therapy. This means that I recognise the mind and body as being connected and consider it important to integrate body-based and mindfulness work into our sessions if appropriate.

However, regardless of the approach used, I believe the most effective tool within therapy is the therapeutic relationship. I aim to create a safe and trusting relationship, without judgement. It is hoped that when trust becomes established the therapeutic interaction itself can positively inform future relationships.

Collaboration is key, therefore I encourage regular reflection within therapy to ensure you feel your needs are being met and progress is optimised.

If you would like to discuss how the service could be of support I offer a free 15 minute consultation to assess the suitability of the service.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold a Masters Degree in Psychology and a masters qualification in Counselling Psychology. I am currently in my third year out of three on a Professional Doctorate In Counselling Psychology. I have recently completed additional training in Compassion Focussed Therapy, Trauma Focussed Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and the National Autism Train the Trainer Program.

My training has covered a range of evidence based therapeutic approaches including Person Centred, CBT, Psychodynamic and Systemic. The approach utilised will depend on your therapeutic goals and individual needs but is fundamentally based upon developing a trusted therapeutic relationship to drive positive change.

I have worked within an established private practice service, the NHS, and a private neuro-rehabilitation service.

Throughout my training, I have worked with individuals across the lifespan, including young children and older adults. I have considerable experience working with complex trauma and spent three years working with sexual trauma specifically. I have considerable experience working with relational difficulties resulting from childhood trauma both with adults and young people.

Alongside my private practice, I work within a secure children's home where I deliver a counselling service for the young people as well as the supervision of staff members and trauma informed training. I am also a visiting psychology lecturer and I am conducting a doctoral thesis research project.
