About me

Hello, I am Magdalena Whitehouse.

I imagine that the reason you’re here is that you are looking for some support around a problem or a relationship. You’re probably looking to find some answers and to find someone qualified in this area whom you feel you can trust with your story.

Because that’s what happened for me many years ago when I began working with my first counsellor.

‘There came a time when the risk to remain tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.’

This wonderful process of sharing my story with a trained professional, quite simply, put me back in touch with myself.

I work integratively which just means that I take from different models of therapy.
I have core training in two main modalities, Creative Arts Psychotherapy (Drama), and Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy.

Additionally I am a trained Bereavement Counsellor and Mindfulness Practitioner.

In my work it’s important to me to be really open to what you are bringing. I aim to provide and hold an environment that feels safe and caring and that respects personal boundaries. In this way I believe that we form a relationship of mutual trust and respect which provides for healing and growth.

I work relationally which means that I believe that the quality of client therapist relationship is fundamentally important to success in therapy.

Transactional Analysis therapy uses simple concepts and models which I may share with you in session. These concepts help us to understand ourselves when in communication with others and also helps us recognise why we think and feel the way we do on the inside.

I may suggest using creative arts approaches if I think they would help you to better explore thoughts and feelings.
Creativity can offer a safe and soft focus way of exploring and processing experiences which are difficult to talk about, or traumatic.

I also bring an awareness of mindfulness into my work. In the Western world we have come to place the ability to think rationally above other aspects of ourselves. I believe that sound mental health comes from valuing all aspects of ourselves as human beings.

I work with bereavement and hold it to be an honour and privilege to walk beside you on the journey of grieving.

I work with individuals specialising in:

  • Depression, Anxiety, Panic Attacks
  • Trauma PTSD Abuse
  • Addictions, Alcoholisms and Eating Disorders
  • Stress Burnout
  • Bereavement
  • Relationship Issues
  • Personality Disorder.

I run variously focused small groups, including:

  • Creative
  • Transactional Analysis
  • Mindfulness.

I am a registered Clinical Supervisor offering individual and group Supervision to counsellors, students and other professionals such as nursing, teaching, management.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

HCPC
Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)

The HCPC are an independent, UK-wide health regulator. They set standards of professional training, performance and conduct for 16 professions.

They keep a register of health professionals who meet their standards, and they take action if registered health professionals fall below those standards. They were created by a piece of legislation called the Health Professions Order 2001.

Registration means that a health professional meets national standards for their professional training, performance and conduct.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
