About me

I've got experience helping people with many different issues, and specialise in working with anxiety and stress. Everyone experiences difficult emotions, but if some aspects of your life have become overwhelming then get in touch. I can help you explore your experiences so you can better understand yourself, increase compassion for yourself, and become better equipped at coping with what life throws at you.

I'm based in Worthing offering face-to-face sessions, as well as online counselling. I offer both short-term and long-term counselling, whichever suits you. I'll follow your lead, and I'll always be honest with you - with your best interests at heart.

No matter what you're going through (e.g. anxiety, stress, depression, relationships issues, low self-esteem or bereavement), these are some ways we can work together to help you through:

  • Looking at your immediate experience, e.g. why seek therapy now?
  • Exploring how these feelings affect you, and what you make of them
  • Examining current coping mechanisms, what is working and what isn't
  • Alternative helping strategies
  • Exploring your past and your relationships
  • Learning and practising acceptance, increasing resilience and self-compassion

Training, qualifications & experience

I'm a registered member of the BACP (British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists). I hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Humanistic Psychotherapeutic Counselling from the University of Brighton. I also have an undergraduate degree in Psychology, and a postgraduate degree in Substance Misuse.

Further training courses I’ve completed include: anxiety, LGBTQ awareness, examining whiteness and racism, trauma, working online, managing suicide, and working with dreams.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

I’ve got particular expertise at helping people with anxiety. That can take many forms: work stress, panic attacks, worry about the future, fear of failure, relationship worries, anxiety about anxiety and so on. Anxiety is a normal response to a variety of situations, but if it's become out of proportion or feels overwhelming then that's where I can help.

Anxiety feels different for everyone, but physically it can feel like: dizziness, increased heart rate, trouble focussing, hyperventilating, or sleeplessness.

I've found the best way to cope with these feelings is to learn to listen to them, not to 'manage' them or push them away. I can help you do that, through exploring your unique experience, your history and relationship to anxiety, if there are other feelings underneath (e.g. rage, sadness or grief), and what to do with your anxious energy so it doesn't rule your life any more.
