About me

Hello,

My name is Dr. Luke Bannister,

Life, in all of its complexity, can be challenging, and our experience of our own thoughts and emotions can cause us distress which can be difficult to alleviate and understand.

I’m sorry if you are struggling at the moment. I would like you to know that there is always hope and that life can become easier over time, despite how difficult this may be to currently imagine.

I understand that reaching out to a psychologist can feel daunting, and that simply looking for a therapist can take courage. I offer face-to-face therapy to individuals in York, and I offer remote therapy over video to adults in the UK.

My therapeutic approach is integrative, which means that I draw on a range of therapeutic models to match you as an individual. We are all complex and unique, and I offer a non-judgemental space to gain a full sense of you and your experience. My outlook is underpinned by empathy and authenticity; therapy is your space in which you can be your genuine self in a safe and confidential space.

Training, qualifications & experience

As a registered Counselling Psychologist, I offer both online and face-to-face therapy sessions for adults. I offer a space for you to explore and process your feelings in a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment.

I am experienced in a variety of therapeutic approaches, including Person-Centred therapy, Psychodynamic therapy, and Cognitive behavioural Therapy (CBT). My Relational and Integrative approach to therapy views the Therapeutic Relationship as the foundation of therapy, and the approach is flexibly adapted to match you as an individual.

I have experience working within the NHS with adults and I can aid you with a broad range of issues you may be experiencing. I have specific in-depth experience working with clients suffering with anxiety, depression, OCD, self-esteem, symptoms of trauma, and difficulties surrounding gender identity.

Further information

As a Psychologist who practises in an integrative manner, I firmly believe in the connection between mind and body, as we experience emotions as bodily sensations. Our bodies can also hold onto past trauma, and developing the ability to hold a mindful awareness of our body can help alleviate difficult emotions.

My outlook is also deeply relational, as our relationships with others, along with the relational patterns we experience over the course of our life, are fundamental to our mental well-being. We may work with the processes which arise within the therapeutic relationship, and explore your relationship with yourself.
