About me

Hello and a very warm welcome, I’m Louise (she/her/hers). I’m an experienced counsellor in Durrington, with flexible hours and counselling to suit you. I do Walk & Talk counselling outdoors around the Worthing area, counselling in a calm, private room or counselling online, phone or email - whichever is best for you.

*Currently no regular evening sessions available, some flexible ones *

Talking to a counsellor who is outside your social group, who doesn’t have their own opinion or past relationship with you, can feel like a great weight off your shoulders. It’s a time you can wholly talk about yourself without any feelings of guilt. You’re talking to someone who will listen completely to you. No interruptions, no hidden agendas, no judgements and no advice. That’s right, no advice. I can’t tell you what to do because I’m not you. With some help from a counsellor, you can learn to trust yourself to make better decisions, accept yourself and move forward in life to what you really want.

I’m here to listen, get to know you and together we can build a trusting working relationship. We can  focus on making your life more like you want it to be.

I’ve helped people who have said things like:

“I feel so much more confident, lighter somehow”

“when I go on a date now I’m like “are YOU good enough for ME?””

“I got the job! I’m really proud of myself”

“When someone asks me to do something for them and it’s not what I want, I can say no!”

I can help you too. I can help you live your life with the knowledge of what’s important to you. Working out and living alongside your values and doing what you want in life can really change how you think and feel about being in the world.

You don’t have to keep struggling alone with feelings of being fed up, worthless and like everyone takes you for granted. You can feel happier, calmer and more confident and I’d like to help you with that.

We all need help sometimes, not because we’ve failed or messed up, but because we’re human! As social beings we’ve evolved to work well with others and talking things through is a very natural and healthy thing to do.

I help people just like you to:

Say “no” when they want to. Tell their loved ones what they need from them. Realise they do deserve respect. Accept that life has ups and downs and have the capacity to cope. Ignore thoughts that aren’t helpful. Make changes in jobs and relationships. Feel ok to take time for themselves. Learn about their behaviour and take control. Be able to understand what they’re feeling and accept them. Make and maintain boundaries in relationships. Quieten their anxieties and feel more in control. Learn to let go and feel less burdened. Gain a fresh perspective. Feel valued and confident to take on new challenges. Smile at themselves in the mirror.

You may rest assured I am fully trained and experienced to help you.

I really want you to get the most out of counselling with me and I have choices to fit in with you. This is my only job so I have flexibility when it comes to days and times, even if you work shifts or irregular hours. We can meet outdoors for Walk & Talk counselling, at my own room in Durrington, online or we can talk on the phone.

Walk & Talk Counselling

Counselling outdoors may suit you, it’s a bit different than sitting in a room and for some that’s much easier. Less eye contact, being outside and being able to move can feel more comfortable and make it easier to talk. I now have lots of experience - all seasons, all weathers and I am happy to discuss your needs with regards location and what you are comfortable with. Confidentiality has not been an issue, I keep aware of people nearby and we can change direction or let people pass. Contact me to have a chat and ask any questions.

Face-to-Face Counselling

If you'd like counselling indoors, I have my own room in Durrington - a lovely calm and quiet room for us to work together.

Online, Phone and Email Counselling

Counselling from the comfort of your own home or work, or anywhere you feel safe, is just as effective and a really positive choice for some people. It allows access to counselling wherever you are and is really flexible to fit around your life.

It is also a great option if you find you have difficulty leaving the house for any reason (mobility, childcare, fears). It is a really good way of getting help. Also great to fit into a busy day, no need to spend time travelling.

Email counselling can be a great option if it's difficult to find the time to be alone for an hour - email might be the answer. Contact me to find out more.

Self-care

Counselling can help in all areas of life as I have experienced myself. It is a positive decision and the ultimate in self-care. You are absolutely worth it!

There are so many benefits to counselling. When you have made peace with things that have happened in your past it gives room for you to think about your present and your future. Learning to love yourself is a wonderful thing and it means others are more likely to respond to you more positively. Your communication and socialising skills will very likely improve and you will learn to change that voice in your head to a positive one.

I realise and remember the first time talking to a new counsellor can make you feel anxious,  so I offer a free first 20 minutes-ish session. We can have a chat to see if we can work together, you can ask any questions and we can talk about how you might like counselling.

If you think I could help you please phone, email or text me. I look forward to helping you too.

Training, qualifications & experience

I didn’t realise I wanted to be a counsellor until I’d tried quite a lot of other things! Trying things out means we learn what we enjoy and what we’d really rather not do. I’ve enjoyed aspects of all the things I’ve done, but somehow I was always looking for something else.

Working at a college visiting apprentices in the workplace included well-being checks and they talked to me. I mean, not just about college but about their lives and struggles. So I took evening classes as I felt I needed more skills to be helpful, and started on my counselling journey. That was a number of years ago now and I have finally found what I want to do.

I have a wealth of life experience to bring to my work and look forward to being on your personal journey with you.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
