About me

In life, we can face many difficulties and challenges, which we all deal with differently. Sometimes you might feel able to cope with them and other times you might not. You might be struggling due to a certain situation such as bereavement, loss of a relationship or job, which causes you to feel overwhelmed, depressed, anxious, angry, sad or alone. Alternatively, these feelings might be due to unresolved trauma and past experiences that have remained hidden for some time. Or perhaps you’re not sure why you feel the way you do leading to confusion and not knowing how to move forward.

However you feel, you do not have to struggle alone.

In all of these situations, counselling can be hugely beneficial as it gives you the space to process and understand these difficulties and confusing emotions, thus allowing you to gain a greater awareness of who you are and how you respond to certain situations. It can also help you make any changes that feel necessary to enhance your life, ones that feel more satisfying and fulfilling.

As an integrative trained counsellor, I use different types of approaches to help you and tailor them to best fit your unique issues and needs. I am here to listen and support you through this time, giving you the space to discuss anything that is important to you and an opportunity to truly be heard. We work together to explore and tackle the difficulties you are experiencing at a pace that feels appropriate in a safe, trusting and non-judgemental environment.

This doesn’t mean counselling is without its own challenges; taking the first step can feel daunting and clients have expressed how they feel “silly” and that their issues aren’t “bad enough”, which has stopped them from reaching out sooner. It is important to remember that no issue is insignificant; it isn’t necessarily about the issue itself, but about how the issue affects you. Also, talking to a stranger puts us in a vulnerable position and can add to this daunting feeling. However, having this freedom to talk openly with someone who isn’t connected to your life outside of the counselling room can often be easier and help you see things more clearly, and I am here to make the process as comfortable as possible.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a qualified Integrative Counsellor due to completing a BACP Accredited Counselling Diploma. I am also trained in telephone and online counselling.

I have successfully worked with young people (aged 16+) and adults of all ages in a number of different settings, including a Secondary School, charitable organisation, Occupational Health Department for the NHS and Private Practice. Through this experience, I have explored with my clients a wide range of issues, such as anxiety, depression, family/relationship difficulties, bereavement, abuse, addiction, trauma, self-esteem and unresolved issues from childhood.

I regularly attend training and CPD events to ensure my knowledge is expanded and remains up to date.

I hold an Enhanced DBS Certificate and am a registered member of the BACP, adhering to their Ethical Framework.

I offer both short and long term therapy.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
