About me

Hello and welcome,

my name is Laura and I am an integrative counsellor. I am a registered member of BACP and I work with individual clients online.

Sometimes life presents us with challenges and we may feel stuck, powerless, depressed, anxious, and may not know where to turn. At these times, it is important that we have a safe and non-judgmental space where we can reflect and explore how we feel, find what brings meaning to our lives, and make sense of whatever is preventing us from living to our full potential.

Whilst life challenges are common, we all have different stories, cultures, values, and beliefs. This is why in therapy it is so important to tailor our approach to the unique life experience of our clients.

Throughout our shared journey, I will be guided by a genuine desire to understand you. I will listen to you and your story with compassion and support you becoming aware of who you are and how you relate to the world. Understanding yourself better in turn will support you in gaining a sense of mastery over your life, and finding fulfillment in your relationships.

My approach

To help you understand a bit more what working with me may look like, I include some information about my practice.

Whilst I draw on different modalities, my approach firmly sits within the humanistic tradition. At the same time, I’m influenced by psychodynamic theory and pay attention to the unconscious forces that drive us.

I believe that human beings are capable of change and what change looks like for you is a fundamental part of the work we will do together.

We will spend a bit of time looking at how your early life experiences may have influenced how you relate to yourself and the world today. We will try and identify patterns in your life to see if you find yourself often in the same situation, at work or in relationships, for example. By slowly shedding light on your behaviours, we will try and separate those that are still helpful from those that do not serve you well anymore. Guided by empathy and positive regard for you and your experience, I will support you in making sense of your life and bring reparation where needed.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
