About me

Hi and welcome , I'm Kirsty and I am passionate about supporting individuals who are struggling with bereavement and mental health.

Are you feeling overwhelmed by grief, separation, job loss , mental health problems, or finding it hard to get through each day and struggling with sleep/motivation?. This might be due to a bereavement, separation/relationship breakdown or a change within health.

Through Darkness to Light, We Journey Together, my aim is to listen to what life is like for you and to offer you a relationship , where you are able to navigate through your journey without any judgement. Together we can use different techniques , where we can identify any thoughts, behaviours and feelings,  to allow you to get through each day more easily.

My personal experience with loss and the challenge of finding support that really helps has fuelled my passion for counselling. I have been where you are, and i understand how loss can affect every aspect of life.

In my time of being a therapist I have noticed that loss and mental health can affect people differently and it can have a big impact on individuals lives. In our sessions I use various therapeutic tools to help clients to understand their greif , to navigate through the different stages of mourning , and to develop healthy coping stratergies. This is where the clients have been able to develop their self-awareness and learn new skills, in order to figure out what is the best way to move forward.

You don't have to go through your struggles alone  let's get started on helping you to move forward and to find meaning within life again.

About me.

I am a BACP registered counsellor, who offers short and long term therapy. I also work within the BACP Ethical Framework and I have regular monthly supervision, as well as being insured by Holistic Gold insurance.

I work both online and in person, my online work is offered through telephone, Whatsapp, google meet or other online platforms. I work in person at Llandybie Memorial Hall, which does have accessible rooms and parking outside of the building. In my work I provide a confidential space for clients who are in both long or short term therapy.

I also hold walk and talk therapy (outdoor therapy) sessions with clients. The walk and talk therapy could be held in a local park and it gives clients the opportunity to express themselves in a natural changing outdoor environment. During the outdoor session we will adhere to confidentiality and if people do pass by we will pause the session briefly until the person has passed.

Here is a more in depth description of my counselling styles.

Humanistic Approach- This approach brings together different elements of specific therapies. This is because an integrative counsellor believes there is not just one approach that can help a client.

Person Centered Approach- This is directed by you, meaning that it will be you that does most of the talking. This is because I will not actively direct the talking , within sessions , or judge nor interpret what you say. However I might repeat what you say to fully understand your thoughts and feelings.

Integrative approach- This draws on different techniques from different styles of therapy. This meaning that I will work with you and tailor my work to meet your needs, as I believe that you are the expert on yourself. I also work within a non-judgmental way and offer space for you to explore your thoughts.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
